@xTheCarHubx No the job choices you will get depend on the units around you, and what there are. Like for me no matter what my ASVAB score was I only had 4 choices because the units around me are either Support (Mechanics, drivers, ect, or Sappers which are 99% Combat Engineers.

@AmericanGMS There's only one Combat Engineer MOS and its 1371.. I don't know what you mean by you don't want to be any other type of combat engineer unless you mean you don't want to be any other type of engineer. But if you're in the DEP and there are slots open, yes you are going to get combat engineer if you can get a slot, but if there are no slots open you will not be guaranteed it.

He said he wasn't going to lie to me, BUT, if I have a higher ASVAB score, they MIGHT give me my preference of 1371. If you want to go active, freakin' do it, or you will regret it (my buddy in the army is trying to go active but can't and he HATES reserve duty)

@MassAxeMurderer you could go grunt and opt for 0351 Assaultman. It's like combat engineer, but you're ONLY blowing shit up, not building stuff too. It's more grunt work. At this point, I'm doing everything I can do switch to grunt because I don't want to be stuck building things. I really want 0331 machinegunner
@MassAxeMurderer Engineers get tasked out to grunts 51's dont really get to blow much up anymore we do all that, but like he said we build stuff to, another down side to being an engineer is you may get sent to a wing unit. @dilauroj94 Yes its true there were several times we build vech.bridges wide and strong enough for two trucks to drive on side bye side only to get told to blow the bridge up 2 weeks later...
@paddypancakes1 They are the ones who breach so you will be on the front lines for sure, they also deploy for long periods of time. Other than that, my brother is a combat engineer, he's still in AIT but he's loving it. They've been messing around with huge ass explosives that blast 50 ft. craters in the ground, C4, AT mines, dynamite, Javelins, grenade launchers, shotgun breaching, and a shitload more. But you could also be assigned to vehicle units (strykers, etc.).

@stratassassin yes they do get into firefights and they disarm IEDs. they clear the area of IEDs and mines to allow the other marines to do their jobs so there is a great chance of being attacked with IEDs but i don't care im still doing it.

Not to idealize Hitler, but during WW2, the German army had a kill ratio of 8-1(fucking bad ass). What you said could almost be a compliment, but you could have at least said Wermacht(German army).

engineers train for everything. jack of all trades master of none. if you r lucky u will get assigned to a division unit like 1st ceb, 2nd ceb, or cec in okinawa with 3rd mar div. i was in cec, 7th esb, and 373 in miramar. been there done that. good times with division though. got attached to 2/4 on the 31st meu. fukin ooh rah. yae yas!
