I absolutely stand with the PolitiChicks on this issue. Society has a duty to set some sort of Laws and Regulations on behavior, otherwise we are noting but an Anarchy.
I feel sorry for this guy. While I don't agree with everything he believes, he made valid points and the women could not understand what he was saying. they kept making hyperboles and using flawed logic in questioning him. But hey, unfortunately these women are getting publicity and the rest of us who assume that people have common sense stay quiet. We have to quit assuming that the general public understands or they will be sucked in by this sort of propagandish bad logic.
I love how these chicks assume that as soon as something becomes legalized, that means any every single person is going to do it uncontrollably. Even 12 year-olds apparently, who have access to it at lunchtime at a public school.
Answer the guy's question. If you want to keep drugs illegal, then you must want alcohol illegal as well. Alcohol is a drug. Although legal, not everyone drinks alcohol. Alcohol is the only drug that can kill you from a withdrawal from a physiological dependence.
Joel did an excellent job defending his position. The underlying foundation for all laws should be the same regardless of the topic. The women are hypocritical in their views. You can trust people with the freedom to use guns but not drugs? People should be able to destroy themselves without the burden falling on the taxpayers. If they don't use "legal" drugs they will huff paint, gasoline, etc. Are we to make those things illegal as well? Should gov protect everyone from bad decisions?
Major kudos and thumbs-up to Joel McDurmon. He made perfect sense, and (sadly) showed that a few of the PolitiChicks are not conservative constitutionalists at all, but rather statists in Tea Party clothing. As a Tea Partier myself, I support ending the unconstitutional War on Drugs.
I love it how conservatives claim to be anti-statist but want to spend millions of dollars on the military, a bunch of welfare queens who serve no purpose other then murdering foreigners, and want the police, a bunch of jackbooted fascist thugs, to be armed to the death and never have to take responsibility for any of their actions.
I mean it's almost like they are hardcore authoritarians in denial.
If I understood what Mr. McDurman said during the course of this interview (that really stood out) was that the legalization of Marijuana was that it would not cause an increase in violent crime. I don't if he has seen someone deal with addiction. They will hurt or kill members of their own family to get their fix. This flies in the face of the common belief that the crime rate decreases if you legalize drugs.
@tfparn Are you saying that more people would try addictive drugs if they were legal? Lets say heroin is legal tomorrow. You are going to run out and buy some? People who are dumb enough to try an addictive drug just bc its legal are going to harm themselves in one way or another eventually. Can you explain why teen alcoholism is highest in the usa compared to other countries without a drinking age using that same logic?Good luck. Prohibition HAS FAILED. Do catch up.
@qualityrkc The commonly held belief that Europe and the rest of the world are more responsible drinkers than in the USA and have fewer alcohol related problems. It has been found that this not necessarily true. While it is true that if the age limit of alcohol and legalization of Marijuana took place tomorrow, most people would not run out and try it in the short term. Long term is different.
@wolfdaddy205 Rights? One thing we can "always" count on you liberals to show is just how ignorance you really are! Was you born a DA or did you have to work on it?

Pot is already legal in many states today i,e medical marijuana. The citizens of these states have voted yes to medical marijuana. The real question today is why are we allowing the Federal government to violate states rights and soveriegnty? They come into our nieghborhoods and destroy medical centers that distribute marjiuana to patients. Then im supposed to accept The Federal governments,"Fast & Furious"shipping guns and drugs across our southern borders, laundering money? Yea that's the question!
@JJDSampson Most gov statistics will tell you otherwise, though their calculations are ridiculous and not based on much related to alcohol at all. There is really no way to know for sure. Although it is commonly believed there were more speakeasy's and illegal pubs in Chicago than there are bars in the city now. Many statistics are out there regarding the use of marijuana during and after prohibition in places like the Netherlands and Portugal. Usage rates drop post-legalization.
Drugs should not be LEGALIZED, they need to be DE-CRIMINALIZED! Criminalizing vise empowers evil and makes problems worse. Addiction is a medical issue law enforcement makes worse. Addicts dependency isn't cured by prison. Fear doesn't make them better people. Christ condemned stoning sinners. Jailing people
for being sick doesn't make them better, it makes them worse. The way addicts
support themselves in a criminal market is by getting more people addicted.
Of course drugs should be legalized. You will still be responsible for any laws you break while on drugs but if you aren't hurting anyone its no one's business but yours what you are doing.
Jannique has a flawed argument. When she says we have to take into account the impact of people using drugs into legislation. People use drugs now they will do this wether drugs are legal or not. I think a number of people will decide to use or not to use regardless of the legality of a substance. The drugs will not be the crime, people wil act how they act regardless of drug use. if their actions violate laws they can be charged with a crime. this removes drug cartel power, gangs strength
I tend to agree with him make them legal. This eliminates a major amount of crime. the crimes committed by drug users separate from getting, holding and using drugs are still crimes. This would allow people to do what they are doing now regardless of the law. It would still place legal implications on their actions. One could hope the money saved from fighting gangs and drugs entering and spreading inside the country could go to working treatment for those who want it.
@shoelessjoe2555 Yes they are - I noticed you dropped the "I'm a conservative" line in there for credibility. Just so you know, you're not any more intelligent than anyone on that panel, they just have the courage to take those opinion to their logical destination (misguided as they may be.) Please reconsider your views on society, you're only enabling these people (at best.)
@reynoldscorey Conservatism is the only way of thinking that is fair, and that actually works. I used the line "im a conservative" to show that i wasnt A STUPID liberal, who was aready biased. Liberal policies, throughout history ALWAYS fail. They may work in the begining, but they always end up in failure. Liberal Ideas never work in the long run, only in the short run. Hmm. Maybe stop the DEA from laundering money for the drug cartels and stop Eric "the red" Holder from arming them with weapons purchased using stimulus (read the bill and weep) money. Face it, our government is the problem since they are playing on both sides. The drug war is an abject failure. The only result has been massive corruption, violence and loss of freedom (just like Prohibition except the government taking part in it part).
I need the government to protect me from using crack! Because I'm going to buy lots of cocaine and make meth if it's legalized!(sarcasm you dummies). These girls are not very bright. They think the only thing keeping me from being a crackhead is that marijuana (a medicine) and cocain is illegal. Stupid stupid stupid. You make conservative women look stupid.
@qualityrkc The assumption that these women would be against the war on drugs if they were truly conservatives. You generalized what it means to be a "conservative" to a single topic. I know you didn't mean any harm in it, I just felt it was too broad-reaching an assumption on too fine a point.
@qualityrkc Nah man, it's totally obvious that these are liberal women posing to be conservative/republican women in order to make Sarah Palin look bad...
...or so the press release will read after Victoria Jackson has her inevitable meltdown.
@Jason86289 It makes sense, from a conservative Christian perspective: so many say that without God, people would just "murder and rob," as though the only thing holding them in check is the belief that an invisible man in the sky might punish them. That's a pretty scary thought. I mean, I have self control and I have empathy and I don't need threats of punishment to give me that. I pity those who do... and there seem to be a lot who do.
Excellent interview. I side with the gentleman on this one, and I think Jennie made a good point about punishing people for the crimes they commit against others, and not for the substances they inhale in the privacy of their own home.
@JJDSampson you know that was very surprisingly insightful! did not expect that coming from any of the women in this group (they aren't the biggest thinkers if you know what I mean) and was very pleased when she said it. The blond and the black woman have no idea of how badly their logic is flawed. They can't seem to grasp that making laws against a substance being used does not actually do anything to quell that demand. Historically, it actually increases demand.
@JJDSampson Justice isn't about punishing people or deterring crime, it's ATONEMENT. Making those who harm others repay victims period. Islamic law is closer to correct, victims get to decide the fate of perpetrators.
Car thieves as a class should be forced to work until all car thefts are paid for. We make auto theft victims pay for towing, storage, insurance and imprisoning the thieves. There is no justice in that! And jailing patients for smoking weed to keep food down is evil.
@g1motion While I agree with your last statement, I disagree with most of what you said before. Making criminals pay money is a good way of causing relapses. Most criminals turn to crime in the first place because they don't have any money, forcing them into life-long debts will do nothing to help them atone because it just creates a different kind of vicious circle for them.
Not only all drugs should be illegal but all alcohol consumption too.
