Dizzy Dean was ther at the game, and when Dizzy won 30 in 1934 he got 4 in relief Denny's were ALL starts Same with Lefty Grove in '31 McLains downfall was truly SAD but in '69 he shared the Cy Young with Cuellar of the ORIOLES but by '72 was outta baseball at the age of 28 Damn shame but while he was on top he was truly magnificient!!! I saw him with my own eyes and remeber Bob Gibson that year had 28 CG 13 SHUTOUTS!!! !.12 ERA 17 K's in GM 1 of the WS Greatest job eva!!!!
I'm a Red Sox fan thru and thru and we had some great voices call our games back in the day like Ken Coleman and Ned Martin. But, if that call by Ernie of Horton's single winning the game and giving McLain his 30th victory doesn't give you goosebumps, you cannot have a pulse!
@Scoclamor I remember that game 6, The Tigers scored 10 runs in one inning with Jim Northrup, who else, hitting a grand slam. Final 13 to 1. Then Lolich beat Gibson in game 7. The horns on Michigan Ave were still honking at midnight. Also I was in the upper deck center field bleachers for McLains 30th. What a season!

He even won another two games that season. His next was win #31 and then he won the important game 6 of the World Series.
