@AvatarMarxon90 It was Louis XIV who instaured this way of life in Versailles. To keep his nobles at his service and not against him like they were before when he was a child. That way they argued over who was choosen to see the king eat and would not think about treason. He wanted to keep them at Versailles. But I agree, I've I been at the king's place or at any guest's place, I would have hated it! Embarrassing to eat in front of everyone and boring to stand and look at someone eating.

Why do they translate La musique du roi as "the king wants his music" surely "the king's music!" would suffice

@thelouisfanclub I think that it should have been translated: "Music for the King." Since in french on could say La musique pour le roi as well but then it would meen that somebody gave it to him, more of a literal translation from English.

Tout d'abord le frère de Louis XIV était Duc d'Orléans et à ce titre il était appelait Monsieur le Duc et ensuite JE DOUTE QUE LE ROI ABSOLU TEL QUE LOUIS XIV PRIAIT SES SUJETS ET QUAND BIEN MEME FUSSENT ILS PARTIE DE SA FAMILLE !!!!

N'oubliez pas qu'entre le Duc d'Orléans et Louis XIV, ce n'était pas le grand amour fraternel, loin s'en faut d'ailleurs.

Je pense, mais la fourchette serait apparue en Egypte et elle a fait son apparition au 10ème siècle en Europe via l'Italie.

Le frère du roi était simplement "Monsieur".

@bobduvar Au contraire il y a fort à parier que justement il les priait. Peut-être pas les gens de son service mais les nobles c'est quasi certain. Car l'étiquette, c'était son truc et il est acquis qu'il était courtois. Un courtois manipulateur et fin stratège certes, mais courtois quand même ;)

Roi absolu signifie qu'il détenait tous les pouvoirs (législatif, judiciaire et exécutif). C'est tout. Parce qu'à ce titre aucun monarque n'était obligé de demander poliment les choses. Et puis, l'absolutisme, cela n'a pas déplu à tout le monde... Voltaire (pas n'importe qui donc) parlait d'absolutisme éclairé. Alors on en pense ce que l'on veut. N'en reste pas moins que ce monarque absolu a dit un jour: "Quant on peut tout ce que l'on veut, il n'est pas aisé de ne vouloir que ce que l'on doit".
