To parents who think their kids aren't listening to the 'oldies but goodies', keep playing your music around them. They may not appreciate the music now, but those old songs will remain buried in the back of their minds and will conjure up as they go through life experiences.

May God rest your soul brother...It was Gil Scott Heron for me the very first time I heard his music in the 70s.I was a teen back then and it was the message in this mans music that inspired me to this day and til my last day...GSH music touched my very life and taught me to "Hold On" and be strong..

I will cherish the night I met him after his show @ S.O.Bs ,NYC. Always willing to talk with his fans,he will missed but always remembered.

Gil Scott Heron is probably one of the most prolific, and socially conscience r&b poets of our time, listening to his material puts you at a whole new level, and awareness about the trials of this life. I think that this brotha was under appreciated for the work that he put in, Perhaps TV One could do a story on his life and contribution to music.

Gil had backing from a variety of musicians, but I always loved this mid-70 version of the Midnight Band. As I've gotten older, I've realized that this version of the group has/had a LOT in common with Mandrill...another group I love. The Midnight Band even had a gorilla as its mascot...similar to Mandrill's use of the colorful mandrill. I wonder if GSH consciously sought to put together a group like Mandrill.

Finally now that spring is coming here in Massachusetts, I can roll the windows down, and just blast Gil everywhere I go and it's so soothing, especially this song. I don't think I've ever payed as much attention as I have when listening to his music.
