ok, YES they were great, Freddie's gone...he inspired many, his memory lives on, nevertheless he was just a mortal like the rest of us (so was Elvis).
And the stream of thought musical & lyrical passages....I dont know...I know they say there werent into drugs, but I'm thinking they MUST have dabbled in some hallucinogenics to create some of this...One thing is for sure, they spent a lot of time alone each coming up w musical ideas.
I was a kid when I got this album....stunning it was, even after yrs of Yes & Purple at their best, neither of those bands instrumental or vocal slouches. But much of the music on this album is just so damn different...yes, it was an evolution from the first, a bit more focused & direct. It's as if they were attempting to write the soundtrack for the mythology & culture of Europe/England. So much reference to myth, English colloquialisms, the baroque piano
@TheAssassins75 only procession and white queen? 1st of all white queen is written by brian may 2nd you should listen to ogre battle fairy feller's master stroke nevermore the march of the black queen and seven seas of rhye at least, and from a night at the opera: i'm in love with my car (live preferred) you're my best friend '39 (live aswell) and the prophet song. those you mentioned are indeed great songs but ther's much much more from queen
@mactherogue 1) i've said the songs written by freddie and procession and white queen by brian but they are not like freddie's songs 2) you've said 39',you're my best friend,... Yes they're fantastic songs but do you think that bohemian rhapsody, love of my life,... do you think that 39', i'm in love with my car,... are better than them? I think: 1) A Night At The Opera 2) Jazz 3) Queen II 4) A Day At The Races 5) Innuendo 6) Made In Heaven 7) Sheer Heart Attack I can't continue sorry
Farrokh Bulsara....the world is a darker place without you....so glad I grew up in the 70's and had a chance to see Queen live..... ! It was an Amazing ride...Freddie Mercury a voice that was a close to perfect as you get a sexy, beautiful soul ,Brian May guitar master, Roger Taylor amazing drums and that falsetto! John Deacon wrote some of Queens most memorible songs.....This is a great song!
March of The Black Queen and The White Queen would still be No. 1 hits today! Queen is a timeless band, and if Freddie were still alive, they'd be at the top of the charts, and still touring, and their fans would be so proud, young and old, because this is a band that could last to eternity, if we could preserve the original four artists.
Everyone who dossn't dwell deep enough into the colosal mamouth that is Queen is likely too miss ever hearing songs like this.
Everyone knows Bohemian Rhapsody and that in it's own right is the most masterful and well known rock song ever, and fro that matter, song ever.
However, had this come later in there career when they were recognized as God's and airtime for songs increased, this could of been as acclaimed as Bohemiun Rhapsody or Innuendo. It certainly deserves to be.
Yeesh, not only did Queen make every famous awesome song ever, but they also have a huge plethora of obscure stuff that is ALSO totally awesome. If it were not for Freddy Mercury's tragic death, this band probably would've just spontaneously combusted from sheer awesomeness overload in a few years time anyway.
The beauty of the song is that no-one truly knows what it's about. There are a few Queen songs like that, and that is what makes them so special.
The album Queen II was a white side and a black side - this is a track off the black side. Freddy wrote all the songs on the black side and this, along with Ogre Battle are simply gob-smacking (even more so when you consider when they were composed). The songs are still valid right now, and can still garner acclaim.
@71garron Yeah, theoreticly suntanned women could go skinny dipping in the pale moon light. -Metaphorphiclly speaking. The best looking men compelled to speak their unbridled lust for other men in a musical score compatble with Chopin. Gob-smacking and thumbs up infinity.
@fatcatlable His lust turns to duty. The galloping drums he surrenders to in the night is their physical love. Marching straight into domestic death he forgets it all. And the Black Queen sees the Angel. And his joy and light are only a memory. Because when it's time to go, you just got to say good bye.
@71garron......That's the beauty & brilliance of Queen. The fact that they still sound fresh, relevant, and totally timeless. If today's airplay exposed them properly, they would be considered ground breaking. Queen's genius knows no bounds.
Queen forever!!!
@1337BleachFan the reason it cuts of is because on the original album, it just went right into the next song(funny how love is). if you listen to the two of them back to back, it doesn't cut off
i have to say that this song and DEATH ON TWO LEGS are my 2 favorite QUEEN songs of all time! oh, and UNDER PRESSURE too because for me, you just can't get any better than QUEEN and DAVID BOWIE...and UNDER PRESSURE is like a musical orgasm...
I have to agree with TuvaKisEn..Queens first 5 albums were all masterpieces...after that and you could see it happening...they were getting commercial...I was one of their first fans Canada way before the radio stations started playing them I used to make my own Queen T shirts. I still have all on Vinyl
agree. One of the best queen songs., march of the black queen. Bit naughty and beatiful...'In each and every soul lies a man. And very soon he'll deceive and discover. But even to the end of his life, he'll bring a little love
@hitman1365 How the hell is anything by Queen "underrepresented"!?
I think that Queen is one of the most universally liked bands of all time, right up there with the Beatles. It's awesome, it's epic, it's amazing in every way, but it's definitely NOT underrepresented.
Tell me about it I was just saying on another queen vid. I was at Amazon gonna actually buy a queen album.. besides the mp3's I have.. I couldn't decide which too buy since I dont want 'we are the Chps. fat bttm girls.etc I wanted the obscure tunes instead - you are correct this is a master piece,,,:):)

hey sokwest you got it bad! Saw Freddie in 1978 and it was the gig of my life. Superb frontman and a pretty good band. What a terrible shame he's not here now to show them all how it should be done.
He was so obviously doing the thing he was born to do... In the lap of the gods was a 10000 people singalong and when they came out after the opera bit in Bo Rap to do the heavy rock bit I thought my heart was going to leap out of my ribcage and burn up in the spotlight that was shining on Freddie
Is every version of this song's end cut off?
