I apologize-forgot about this. If fundamentalism is so bound to culture of modernism despite the fact this is a very erroneous assumption-why does the emergent church teach the exact same ideas that old line liberal Christianity also taught and opposes those doctrines that the emergent church also opposes. So here we have evolution brought into the church and loand behold-this ideal of emergent church comes from the old modernistic ideal of the emergent evolution
Yep-modernism brought us WW2 that sounded the death nell of liberalism or in toher words-smashing those modern beliefs that were incorporated into the churches which brought in the supreme(though at times flawed in relying on people)-the supremacy of the scriptures and fundamentalism. My questions start with how is fundamemntalism reliant on modernism when fundamentalism oposed secular modernism. I love how others judge people who disagree such as "fearful" of change.
I think the emerging church brings about a relevant conversation that corresponds to a better understanding of the minds that are coming together. It really bridges the chasm that has existed between the two parties that have been joined tighter to find the truth where we can seemingly find some similitude of truth. We cant bring our platonic mindset to all these things. Come on get a grip!!!!!!
@sephiroth89bmw Wow, nice dialogue or should I say dialectic? As in Hegelian. First, the emerging church is way more neo platonic then probably all those calling Christ combined from after the ressurection of Christ
This told me absolutely nothing about the beliefs of the church. Emergent complains in broad strokes what their concept of the church is then complains when they are painted with broad strokes.
This video avoided the deeper topics. What do you think about salvation? Sin (as you complained about the concept today, but give no resolution)?, Morality? Is there a correct culture (how about the NAMLA culture)?
Hmm. This was a ten minute trailer for a feature film length documentary that is never going to get made. It was not intended to be deep introspective commentary on the subjects at hand, merely a brief, cursury and (yes) shallow look at the movement as a whole. The original intent of this film was to attract investors. I have since decided to abandon this project until further notice as I am working on another one which has much more promise.
Thanks for the quick reply. Do you have any the full length that you have done? Is there anything deeper on it, as I would be interested in hearing what they have to say further as you talked to them. I would be interested if you have anything else.
Only suggestion for next time with it is to announce that in the beginning, b/c with that perspective it makes more sense why you did what you did.
So if "postmodern Christian" is oxymoronic, are you then saying that all Christians ipso facto must be modern? Pre-modern?
And to correct your presupposition, postmodernism does not deny the existence of truth, but merely calls into question our ability to objectively realize it.
Postmodernism is a vaguely defined term. However, just based on your description of it, Christians should not be comfortable identifying with this movement. The Bible makes it clear that when we believe in Christ, we come into relationship with the One who is the Truth as well as the Logos (from which we get the word "logic"). Truth is an objective reality.
I personally see no need to put a label on Christians in general - other than "Christian."
If the postmodernist is simply saying we must be humble, I agree.
In other words, we should realize that God has given each culture some truth; we should always be learning; and should not abuse the knowledge (& power) that God has given us...
I think this is simply getting back to Scripture, not seeing a need to jettison all of western culture in an attempt to launch a brave new world.
no. modernism did not give us the holocaust. SIN did.
there is much deadness in the churches they react against, but to oppose one error with another one is no solution.
i also reject augustine and neo platonism, but this movements claim to be ancient church is completely specious

"There is truth in the postmodern worldview" - ?? Postmodernism denies the very concept of truth.
While I agree with some of the critiques of modern Christianity, I still think the term "postmodern Christian" is oxymoronic.
