Not really... in Equus, Alan (Dan's character) sees horses as Gods. This is more of a worship for him than sex. The sheer power of the horse beneath him makes him ejaculate (or is implied in the script), but first and foremost it's an act of worship.

And there's no actual sex with horses in Equus, just thought I'd clear that up for some people!

Yeah. I did see it! It was amazing!! He is an amazing actor. I don't know how he could play such an exhausting role so many times a week, but he pulled it off. The tickets were $116 and I had great seats (7th row center). It was perfect!! I was so excited to see him.

I would say he looks pretty average. He has mentioned in interviews how he gets so nervous on stage that he's not really looking "his best" ,if you know what I mean. So he's no Don Juan. He is in great shape though. He keeps his body in good shape.

My greek mythology professor relates the play of Equus to the Bacchae. The reason he blinds the horses is because they see him in a moment of weakness. She said that his upbringing made him replace Jesus with the image of a horse. "The horse is an object of worship, invitation to freedom and source of sexual relief". You can say it is a Dionysian ritual when he's with the horse. Well, that's her interpretation. It's as if Equus is a jealous and vengeful god or the equivalent of Dionysus.

Hi I saw this play in London (I live their) and it was amazing! The story in the play is really chilling and I love Daniel Radcliffe to (That was one of the main reasons why I saw it). I just saw the show on the second night of previews Saturday, and it was phenomenal. The way he performed this scene was even better than when I saw it in London. And thank god, there was no screaming, applauding, or yelling during either his or Griffith's first appearances on stage, when Radcliffe stripped, and there were no Harry Potter items thrown at the stage. It was a brilliant play, and I highly recommend that anyone (17 and over anyway) should go see it. They were amazing!

Okay, so in this scene, Alan has taken a horse out for a midnight ritualistic ride in which he strips naked to 1) match the horse's state of dress and 2) become closer/one with the animal he worships, loves and fears. Alan, because of his parent's conflicting views on everything from religion to sex causes him to become horribly confused, and he becomes fixated on horses. It becomes so bad, that he can only be aroused by them. So yes, in this scene, before he says 'Amen', he is climaxing.

From what the audio gives, I think Daniel got the feeling of that scene really well. I wish I could have seen the play performed, but I did read Equus and Daniel's voice sounds very close to what I imagined while reading the horseback scene.

He's breathless, for two obvious reasons; and he's got that strange, religious devotion to Equus that you can hear from his tone as well as the words--which is some of the most creepily poetic dialogue I know of.

OMG! I saw this play last night and it was so good!! It wasn't Dan unfortunatly but it was Lily Allen's brother Alfie. Actually no, he's not. Alan (Dan) has created in his mind the horse god Equus to deal with the religious conflict within his home, and in this scene he is describing/acting out to Dysart (Richard) the ceremonial ritual he engages in with the horses in the stable where he works. Alan strips down and rides the horse naked in the middle of the night and he gets off on it, it's the only way he can reach the pinacle of ecstasy.

Yes, Equus is not a show for the faint of heart or newbies to theatre.
