This Dub is in my opinion infinitely better than the sub... It's more authentic and funky. Japanese seiryus are just boring and monotonous, and its really hard to distinguish one voice from another
@l1meyman exactly. All japanese VO is way to monotone or high pitched for what they do. Using Code Geass as an example Lelouch is alot less intimidating when his laugh sounds like a school girl that got kicked in the twat cause the voice is so squeaky.
@CrashB111 Good point, not a lot of people don't agree with us though. I prefer dubs most of the time anyway. So when people say "the sub is waaay better" I'm like, "really? do you have ears?!" lol
@l1meyman It is actually because we have ears that we hate (most) dubs. It seems like they are just done quick and dirty to cash out most efficiently. In the originals you can hear the production values of the voice-acting. Also, the director of an anime is never involved in creating english dubs and his vision will get lost or muddled in the dub. A lot of times the voice actors are just quirkily overacting and do not seem to take their jobs as serious as their japanese counterparts.
@arhainofulthuan Lol I assure you, I do have auditory organs that work just fine. I know we're never going to agree, but I'll stand by the notion that Japanese voice acting is just not my cup of tea. In most original casting, most characters have a sort of "archetypal" voice role.
@l1meyman But there are exceptions to this. Cowboy Bebop's dubs are pretty good, but I've just grown more attached to the Japanese Spike's way of talking :)
lol I totally get it, but I tend to enjoy dubs a lot better. In my earlier post, I ran out of room but I meant to explain that in Japanese originals there's your standard male Japanese voice, a bit too deep, monotonous, There's a "Big guy voice" a little obnoxious sounding, loud, more expressive than the first example, but not much. There's the effeminate male voice, same as first archetype just lighter. Then you have female voices that either range very high to sultry, There's no variety...
@l1meyman Somehow, the dubs are just not that believable to me. The voices just don't feel like they belong to the characters for me, somehow. I've seen a lot of anime, but haven't really picked up on that "standardization" you speak of (could you give me some examples of other anime?), I'll start paying some more attention to it, but I don't solely watch anime with that Cowboy Bebop kinda character setup anyway... Right now I'm watching Eden of the East :)
@arhainofulthuan AH! Eden of the East is wonderful!! Of course, I've only watched the dub version, though ^__^ I think a good example can be found in Code Geas's dub. I admit, its very good, but I still do prefer the English dub. My ears might also be dull to the nuances that can be found in Japanese dubs, because I don't listen to them that often.
@l1meyman@l1meyman It's been a while since I've last seen Code Geass. I can only remember that gondola scene and the ending :P I don't remember being put off by Lelouch's voice, but I guess they wanted him to stand out from Kira/Light from Death Note, because that was kinda the same character...
@Decimare1 I concur. The series dvds I have didn't have an english audio track, but knocking on heaven's door did. The dub in that was quite good (especially compared to dubs like Love Hina...), but the japanese version is so much more fitting to the characters...
That being said, the fansubs out there are also much better than the dutch subs on my dvds, which are a little dry. It seems like translating companies just see it as work, but don't go that extra mile to properly translate the humor.
This just so happens to represent the troubles all of the characters tried to run away from, thus "leaving their food in the fridge" THE MORE YOU KNOW
I know your pain Bebop. Once i left a raw egg in a closed (don't ask why in the hell i put it in there). After a month my room started to stink really badly. And then i remembered that egg. Then i open a closed i almost puked from the stink.
That egg started to rotten and exploded... Shit, that was one hell of a cleaning day...
Strangely I've seen some mutated cheese sitting in a fridge that was never cleaned in real life that was pretty disgusting as well. It had fungus and maggots and everything. :P
weirdest filler ever. I would've said most paranormal, but then I was reminded of the Samurai Champloo filler where they go into some alternate universe and have to mine and eat wasabi root.
@arhainofulthuan how am i a fool? am already past the episode where this happens i just wanted to re watch it, before u call ppl ignorant check you facts you dumbass...
"thanx for ruining it for me, i just started watching the show....." Is what you said. And now you're taking it back, because you were already past the episode? In that case, how did I ruin it for you? :S
If you ARE taking it back, I'll take back my comments earlier as well.
I think with this discussion being moved right on top of the comments, you've succesfully managed to put up a warning.
I don't think a warning is necessary, tho. You should not view unwatched series clips on youtube if you don't want to see spoilers. If you manage to do so and think it is anyone else's fault instead of your own, then it's just a lesson learned.
@jodetert Before you watch Cowboy Bebop clips, perhaps you should finish the show instead. Spoilers are implied in this kind of video. It is up to the watcher to be familiar with the source material.
After being ignored so long, the lobster apparently gave birth to a colony of excessive mutators, probably due to intense space radiation and things evolved a little out of hand ;)
Or its just an excuse to do an Alien/2001/sf parody.
@UndercoverCracker The only reason why the english voice actor fits the character better is because of the way Spike acts. His body language, his "i don't give a shit" tone and look. You dont see other anime shows and characters act this way, usually all hyped up, funny-looking, or just super serious.
He called it a Ganymede rock lobster, which I'm guessing is a type of lobster raised on one of Jupiter's moons which shares the name.
Just goes to show you that if you get a lobster and leave it in your fridge for over a year, you're gonna have to deal with a coral reef fridge monster and a malicious fungus blob.
