This Dub is in my opinion infinitely better than the sub... It's more authentic and funky. Japanese seiryus are just boring and monotonous, and its really hard to distinguish one voice from another

@l1meyman exactly. All japanese VO is way to monotone or high pitched for what they do. Using Code Geass as an example Lelouch is alot less intimidating when his laugh sounds like a school girl that got kicked in the twat cause the voice is so squeaky.

@l1meyman It is actually because we have ears that we hate (most) dubs. It seems like they are just done quick and dirty to cash out most efficiently. In the originals you can hear the production values of the voice-acting. Also, the director of an anime is never involved in creating english dubs and his vision will get lost or muddled in the dub. A lot of times the voice actors are just quirkily overacting and do not seem to take their jobs as serious as their japanese counterparts.

@arhainofulthuan Lol I assure you, I do have auditory organs that work just fine. I know we're never going to agree, but I'll stand by the notion that Japanese voice acting is just not my cup of tea. In most original casting, most characters have a sort of "archetypal" voice role.

lol I totally get it, but I tend to enjoy dubs a lot better. In my earlier post, I ran out of room but I meant to explain that in Japanese originals there's your standard male Japanese voice, a bit too deep, monotonous, There's a "Big guy voice" a little obnoxious sounding, loud, more expressive than the first example, but not much. There's the effeminate male voice, same as first archetype just lighter. Then you have female voices that either range very high to sultry, There's no variety...

@l1meyman Somehow, the dubs are just not that believable to me. The voices just don't feel like they belong to the characters for me, somehow. I've seen a lot of anime, but haven't really picked up on that "standardization" you speak of (could you give me some examples of other anime?), I'll start paying some more attention to it, but I don't solely watch anime with that Cowboy Bebop kinda character setup anyway... Right now I'm watching Eden of the East :)

@arhainofulthuan AH! Eden of the East is wonderful!! Of course, I've only watched the dub version, though ^__^ I think a good example can be found in Code Geas's dub. I admit, its very good, but I still do prefer the English dub. My ears might also be dull to the nuances that can be found in Japanese dubs, because I don't listen to them that often.

@Decimare1 I concur. The series dvds I have didn't have an english audio track, but knocking on heaven's door did. The dub in that was quite good (especially compared to dubs like Love Hina...), but the japanese version is so much more fitting to the characters...

That being said, the fansubs out there are also much better than the dutch subs on my dvds, which are a little dry. It seems like translating companies just see it as work, but don't go that extra mile to properly translate the humor.
