@MrPibbs100 And cartoons, and tv shows, and movies... well, okay, Nostalgia Critic points out a lot of crappy movies, but you know.. at least they're nostalgic, movies these days are just "watch it and leave it"... if that makes sense... xP

@TheVenetianLion I completly agree with you, I remeber having to arrange a time with my BFF whenever we wanted to do something, calling around a certain ,everything lmao
I feel like I should have been born in my parents time. The 80's and 90's just seem so much better. I was 6 when '99 ended, so I wasn't really able to enjoy the 90's... o__O'
I promise you the next time we'll be perfect, as we were. When I listen to this song, I think about you and the time that we shared, I especially can't forget the moments when we used to listen to Smashing Pumpkins in your car and in my bedroom. I still miss you..
Probably already been said, but I love the cassette/car roof analogy to the real filming of the video for 1979 - very poignant! (if you're not sure what I mean, google the filming of 1979's video, you'll understand).
Although I miss the 90s like crazy, there's no sense mythologizing it as a decade of wall-to-wall great music. We had to deal with Hanson, for fuck sake!
Point is, there was good AND bad stuff then, just like there's good AND bad stuff now.
Don't any of you listen to Arcade Fire? or Interpol? or Kasabian? to name just 3 great current bands.
And hey, many of the 90s bands are still around, making new albums and touring.
@1980NewWave i totally agree that every generation has it's good & bad artists, but today there's way more crap than there is art, but like you said we've got many from the 90's, like radiohead, the offspring, 311, and goldfinger, and the ones who disbanded but got back together: blink 182, eve 6, third eye blind, and rage against the machine, and those are just the mainstream bands that were most litened to, others were great but forgotten fairly quick
@1980NewWave there was more bad music in the 2000s and now in the teens. much more. nowadays, you have to dig for the great stuff. it wasn't like this a decade ago really.
in the 90s, there was a nice majority of great music that was mainstream from rock, electronica, hip-hop, etc.
I was 18 when this came out. I was pretty depressed teenager (no, not a sob story...life's great now at 31....fuck I'm old :)) and for completely unknown reasons, this song captivated me. It had that mixture of a great overall message, nostalgia for the way things were, and sadness for the way things could never be. Particularly poignant that the two-timing girl loses BOTH guys - one presumably dies in the car accident, the other one arrested and likely tossed in jail.
I am not sure if many know that is song/video is a continuation of the song/video 1979... I thought that was cool when I found that out! just thought I would share! :)
hey i just wanna say ive had a youtube account for a very short period of time.... and its hard not to reply to idioteque statements, but ill keep trying, i know it looks dumb to argue with people on here, so as of now im done fighting on the voting subject and whatnot, cause these fools have nothing informed to say
This song will always reming me of what me little group has become. Yes, we all have diferent lives, and yes, they are all great in their own way. But as I sit here alone in Germany, while my husband is in Afghanistan and my friends are in the states, not speaking to each other besides to me, it hurts. We grew up listening to the Pumpkins and thought our group would be together forever. We would grow together, stay friends, stay in relationships with each other, etc. I still miss the past. :(
@dicygirl03 I dont have a loved one in afghanistan but I moved away from home and I always thought our lil tight group would always be there for eachother but like you people do their own things and thats life and I feel your pain all that matters is you try to be there and have those friendships/relationships with those people even if it is longdistance its worth it and also dont miss the past Enjoy those thoughts of the past and try to make new memories because time stops for no one

People keep talking crap about music current music. There is great music out now as well as a lot of crap. Same can be said about the 90s, 80s and further back. Awesome music like this just stands the test of time.
@xxFromYesterdayxx Dude you make me feel like an old man, but well spotted, the Pumpkins were awesome back in the day...some of the most timeless music from the 90's
Was born in '92. I didn't get into real good music till I hit my teens. SOAD and Korn are all fine, but sometimes, it's nice to listen to music that was out before my time.
This song has such a significant meaning to me. Back in the summer of 2008, me (13) and my friend (15) had been talking about the Smashing Pumpkins on the bus ride to camp. I didn't know he liked them as well as I did, and at the end of the bus ride this song came on the radio. I had never heard it and it was his favorite song and he sang along to it so quietly and peacefully. In the December of 2009, he commit suicide. That bus ride was my favorite memory of him. I'll always miss you James.
k so check this out the "stop' n 'go mart" at 1:17 is the same stop' n 'go mart in the music video "defy you" by the offspring. pretty damn cool huh :D
@russ6661 its also the same stopp n go market from the 1979 video from the smashing pumkins ..in case you didnt knew..but your right same one from defy yoyu..
This vid is actually a follow-up for 1979. The characters (actors) are the same. It's a story about the difficulty of being grown-up. 1979 was more like a song of wild youth without any responsibility. Just hanging out & having fun.
"Perfect" is a sad song. In short, things didn't go as planned. Life screwed up, but maybe in the next life things will be better.
Oh my gosh! I have never seen this video before and went reading the comments first. I'm glad I did, I really tied a lot together from the two videos!
@ZatarraDantes1 Please stop with these generic comments, especially on a Smashing Pumpkins video. Everyone knows you're just fishing for the thumbs-up.
@ZatarraDantes1 I don't want to argue with you, but i really just want to protect videos like this. If you love the Smashing Pumpkins, then i suggest you don't manufacture generic insults toward people that dislike the song. You can go ahead and comment like that at mainstream music of today, but you shouldn't do that here.
another great jam from the 90's, but it still pisses me off that i was born in 91 and did't start appreciating the music for what it was until i was like 14, but i do thank god that i didn't get into any of the shit that they're calling music these days.
@3Hits4Felix I know what you mean. I was born in 92 and would give anything to go back in time and see the original Pumpkins perform all their great songs from siamese dream, MCIS and Adore
@3Hits4Felix Exact same here bro, except I was 1992. But one of my earliest memories of music was watching the video of Tonight Tonight with my older sister, and getting scared shitless by those things on the moon and the sea monsters. Yet I didnt really like smashing pumpkins till I was like 16 or 17.
@3Hits4Felix their is actually pretty good music out there. you just gotta find it. one of my favorite bands is Silversun Pickups. Absolutely love them.
@3Hits4Felix There is SOME not much but some good bands out now but i agree the 90's were amazing for music even though i was only around for a little bit of the 90's I still love the music :D
enough of the 'music will never be the same' comments
its not the music its the people
did gish just show up on your doorstep one day? did someone hand you mellon colllie on your way to work? bitching about the quality of todays music isnt helping anything. have you seriously searched for a good band lately? probably not.
if people were willing to look and not expect exactly the same they would realize good music is just a glance away
@Mrgoosebags well i do agree with you partially on the fact that it's the peoples fault, but you also have to take into consideration that todays industry is filled with yuppy idiot suits, who manufacture safe bubble gum pop rock and new wave emo and screamo bullshit. and that's a huge problem when real artists arent getting the airplay they deserve, like Ben Harper and the Relentless 7, so yes i have searched for good bands and they are the only one i like with an exception of a few others.
@Mrgoosebags and hey i have a right to bitch, its like voting, if you dont vote the idoits in office and they get in and start fuckin shit up then in all reality you should have the right to complain, and not the people who voted for them Lmao!
@3Hits4Felix That is retarded. If you don't bother to vote, you clearly don't care, so if the people that were elected start fucking shit up, please shut the fuck up. If it wasn't important then, it shouldn't be important to you know. People who don't vote and then complain are moronic assholes.
@johnjohnmajortom in what reality do you live in? I guess you're one of these assholes who buys in to the whole "choose the lesser of two evils" bit, and not voting doesnt mean i dont care it means i would rather wait until I see someone i feel could make a real change. think of it as going into business w/someone while your workers are sayin hey man dont do it hes bad news, then the guy runs the store into the ground 3 months later, who do you think has the right to complain?
@johnjohnmajortom keep tellin yourself that, i'll keep livin in the real world where shit like that happens to good people and they're out of a decent job and having to work at jack in the box slaving over a hot fry cooker for shit hours and minimum wage. our economy is shit, the bankers of goldman and sachs are shaking hands w/our gov't while they strangle the people(remember the bail out) and neither party is trustworthy. It's one nation under wallstreet man, so wake up or play dead.
90's is the best year for music and i dunno why.

The "Innocence" of the 90's,
Having to arrange a time to meet a friend at the mall and being there on time
cause you didn't have a cell to pardon your tardiness,
Having to calla girl between certain times so her parents would answer the house phone,
Waiting around all night to hear your song on the radio so you could record it onto a cassette tape,
The world got too damn small,
too damn busy,
to "convenient".

Was born in '92. I didn't get into real good music till I hit my teens. SOAD and Korn are all fine, but sometimes, it's nice to listen to music that was out before my time.

I am glad I was a teenager in the 90's.

I'll always miss you James.

ksmasterchif401 11 months ago 4
PERFECT!
MrMikevigilante 11 months ago 2
This vid is actually a follow-up for 1979. The characters (actors) are the same. It's a story about the difficulty of being grown-up. 1979 was more like a song of wild youth without any responsibility. Just hanging out & having fun.
"Perfect" is a sad song. In short, things didn't go as planned. Life screwed up, but maybe in the next life things will be better.
Or that's how I got this song.

Oh my gosh! I have never seen this video before and went reading the comments first. I'm glad I did, I really tied a lot together from the two videos!

ZatarraDantes1 11 months ago
@ZatarraDantes1 Please stop with these generic comments, especially on a Smashing Pumpkins video. Everyone knows you're just fishing for the thumbs-up.
ebgreenham 11 months ago
@ebgreenham u seriously need to get a life men =/
ZatarraDantes1 11 months ago
@ZatarraDantes1 I don't want to argue with you, but i really just want to protect videos like this. If you love the Smashing Pumpkins, then i suggest you don't manufacture generic insults toward people that dislike the song. You can go ahead and comment like that at mainstream music of today, but you shouldn't do that here.
ebgreenham 11 months ago
@ZatarraDantes1 think you need a life. posting those annoying comments will get you marked as spam.

another great jam from the 90's, but it still pisses me off that i was born in 91 and did't start appreciating the music for what it was until i was like 14, but i do thank god that i didn't get into any of the shit that they're calling music these days.
3Hits4Felix 11 months ago 80
@3Hits4Felix I know what you mean. I was born in 92 and would give anything to go back in time and see the original Pumpkins perform all their great songs from siamese dream, MCIS and Adore
MechanicalChrist1 11 months ago
@3Hits4Felix Agreed, music today is shit.
bitbat9 11 months ago 2
@3Hits4Felix Mmm, that sounds exactly what a tool ass piece of shit would say. Nice fail.
Zem0nkey 11 months ago
@3Hits4Felix Exact same here bro, except I was 1992. But one of my earliest memories of music was watching the video of Tonight Tonight with my older sister, and getting scared shitless by those things on the moon and the sea monsters. Yet I didnt really like smashing pumpkins till I was like 16 or 17.

@3Hits4Felix i wuz born in 97... im 13 and i just started listening to good music in the 4th grade...

@gtbtone Same here. Actually I barely listened to music until a few years ago.
Happymealify 10 months ago
@3Hits4Felix their is actually pretty good music out there. you just gotta find it. one of my favorite bands is Silversun Pickups. Absolutely love them.
diegosilerio 10 months ago
@3Hits4Felix There is SOME not much but some good bands out now but i agree the 90's were amazing for music even though i was only around for a little bit of the 90's I still love the music :D
drpeper1996 10 months ago
@3Hits4Felix
enough of the 'music will never be the same' comments
its not the music its the people
did gish just show up on your doorstep one day? did someone hand you mellon colllie on your way to work? bitching about the quality of todays music isnt helping anything. have you seriously searched for a good band lately? probably not.
if people were willing to look and not expect exactly the same they would realize good music is just a glance away
Mrgoosebags 10 months ago
@Mrgoosebags well i do agree with you partially on the fact that it's the peoples fault, but you also have to take into consideration that todays industry is filled with yuppy idiot suits, who manufacture safe bubble gum pop rock and new wave emo and screamo bullshit. and that's a huge problem when real artists arent getting the airplay they deserve, like Ben Harper and the Relentless 7, so yes i have searched for good bands and they are the only one i like with an exception of a few others.
3Hits4Felix 10 months ago
@Mrgoosebags and hey i have a right to bitch, its like voting, if you dont vote the idoits in office and they get in and start fuckin shit up then in all reality you should have the right to complain, and not the people who voted for them Lmao!
3Hits4Felix 10 months ago
@3Hits4Felix That is retarded. If you don't bother to vote, you clearly don't care, so if the people that were elected start fucking shit up, please shut the fuck up. If it wasn't important then, it shouldn't be important to you know. People who don't vote and then complain are moronic assholes.
johnjohnmajortom 10 months ago
@johnjohnmajortom in what reality do you live in? I guess you're one of these assholes who buys in to the whole "choose the lesser of two evils" bit, and not voting doesnt mean i dont care it means i would rather wait until I see someone i feel could make a real change. think of it as going into business w/someone while your workers are sayin hey man dont do it hes bad news, then the guy runs the store into the ground 3 months later, who do you think has the right to complain?
3Hits4Felix 10 months ago
@3Hits4Felix You are probably one of the dumbest commenters on youtube.
johnjohnmajortom 10 months ago
@johnjohnmajortom keep tellin yourself that, i'll keep livin in the real world where shit like that happens to good people and they're out of a decent job and having to work at jack in the box slaving over a hot fry cooker for shit hours and minimum wage. our economy is shit, the bankers of goldman and sachs are shaking hands w/our gov't while they strangle the people(remember the bail out) and neither party is trustworthy. It's one nation under wallstreet man, so wake up or play dead.
