As a native Kansan much of Kansas is not that bad. Just depends on where you live and what you like. I like the outdoors, I grew up in Osage County in a town of about 1000 people and loved it there. The only thing really bad is Johnson County. It truly truly declares war on younger people. Yeah its safe and very prosperous but this whole county is run off scamming people or their parents to take diversion. On top of that you can pay double the fine on your ticket and it disappears.
Here's an update on the 'law(haha)' in kansas. I recently had a person steal a pickup I was working on, the motor was out. They had to cut a padlocked chain, hotwire a tractor just to move it. They took it in and sold it for scrap, (which they can legally do because it didn't have the motor). I guess you don't need the title to prove ownership...only if it has the motor! The deputy which took my statement knew the one who did it...but "I don't think he would do that" he said. kansas sucks!
i'm living in kansas right now. from a person that use to live in seattle wa. this place is so not fucking fun. i only counted 37 black people(and i been here for 4 months.)
1: hardly any black people(up to 42 black people count now that i seen)
2: got go 1/2 mile with out seeing a big jones love for jesus sign or bill board.
3: grass fields or farm land as far as the eye can see.
4: hardly any thing good on the radio and every time there's a game on all the channels play it(at least where i live, sorry but radio is made for music and news, a game on one channel would be fine but not 15 of them)

It used to be a while back that we were free and clear to choose what insurance and what we wanted about our automobiles, but, now we are not allowed not to have insurance and better yet they make you get insurance for any car you drive. Licenses are about what year you drive so if you drive a clunker you pay less and if you drive a new car you pay more for insurance. Seems a little backward huh?
Did you know that Walt Disney was here before he lived in California and also this is the home of Hallmark Cards. Also, this was the place that the Wizard of Oz was written about. Also Wild Bill Hickock lived in Lenexa, Kansas before it was really a community. Several things about Kansas you probably didn't know.

I think it's matter of opinion. Kansas has all I need, I can go to a cheap college game for division 2, KU is right around the corner, little more expensive though, Topeka has everything you need from retail, clothing, 3 or 4 Wal-marts, a Sam's Club, Best Buys, Target, K-Mart, fast food, dine-in, all you can eat buffet's, hotels, capital, museums, theaters (play theaters and movie theaters), KC Kansas, Wichita, Lawrence I like. West Kansas has alot of cool places, you just need to know where.
JOCO is a good place to raise a family though, and the crime rates are very low. In fact, it tends to spoil the people here to the point where they start taking it for granted. Then they go somewhere else that is far more entertaining, but has higher crime rates. It seems like many people don't mind the compromise though.
Most of Kansas seems to be stuck in the past like Topeka and Wichita. Many folks can only hope to get a job doing some industrial trade. But in Johnson County in the KC Metro area, it's much different. We have Johnson County Community College where you can actually hope to get a degree that will lead to a white collar job. However, we suffer greatly with entertainment, and the sense of community in many cases seems manufactured. There are a lot of bored, rebellious, suburbanite youth in JO.
@apostateoftrance the only reason Wichita folk usually turn to a blue collar job is because we are so HUGE in aircraft manufacturing. it takes up a great majority of the job market here.

I'm from Texas, and just got stationed in Kansas. This place sucks big balls. There is nothing to do. The summer only lasts two months. June and July. Then it gets fucking cold again. I hate this place!

FYI, the Chiefs (NFL), Wizards (MLS) and Royals (MLB) are all in Missouri NOT Kansas. Kansas does not have any top tier professional sports teams (other than two D-I colleges, University of Kansas - Jayhawks and Kansas State University - Wildcats)
Neither of those is top tier. KU has had a great basketball program but have mostly sucked at every other sport. Kansas State had a really good football program for about 10 years but they stink again and, like KU, have mostly stunk at every other sport.
I am a fan of none of Kansas' teams. But, I have to say that by far, KU ranks far higher than KSU. However, given that KSU's old coach has returned to the Wildcats football team, there may be some fierce redemption, even against my favorite team, Texas Tech. I can only hope that these words are not prophetic and a curse against those who face KSU this upcoming FB season.

Huh? Kansas has no professional sports teams of any kind. The Chiefs, Royals, Wizards, and Brigade are all located in Missouri. I guess the poster below is right. ive lived in kansas all my life. it sucks. a lot. but i do plan on going to college at usc. but i do have to say even though it sucks the houseing market is so cheap here compared to other places u could buy a two story house witha basement for the cost of 1 years rent for a appartment in california but other than that nobody wants to live here cause the funnest thing we have is bon fires ooooo fun a big fire and spiders out in the middle of nowhere

Leave as soon as you can! I grew up in KS, and I absolutely hated it. It brings you down, and it has a tendency of bringing out the worst in a person. Go back to the coast, that's where I live (near NYC) and I've also lived on the west coast. No comparison.

Kansas has to be the worst state of all time. Everything about it sucks ass. Its people are demented. Its wealthy are contradictory, saying that they care and want to help the poor, yet jack up the utility rates so much that people are losing their electricty- and the same wealthy say it is the poor's problem. Overall, it is an ugly state geographically and offer nothing of value (except salt). Its sports teams are a joke. And, its politics are the most corrupt outside of Washington, D.C.!

I'm from Texas, and just got stationed in Kansas. This place sucks big balls. There is nothing to do. The summer only lasts two months. June and July. Then it gets fucking cold again. I hate this place!

I too am from Texas and also reside in Kansas (I have been trapped in this piece of shit state since 2002). But, Southboy, the heat of summer lasts until almost November. But, one of these days, I will be getting back to the state that makes sense to me, Texas!

FYI, the Chiefs (NFL), Wizards (MLS) and Royals (MLB) are all in Missouri NOT Kansas. Kansas does not have any top tier professional sports teams (other than two D-I colleges, University of Kansas - Jayhawks and Kansas State University - Wildcats)

Neither of those is top tier. KU has had a great basketball program but have mostly sucked at every other sport. Kansas State had a really good football program for about 10 years but they stink again and, like KU, have mostly stunk at every other sport.

I am a fan of none of Kansas' teams. But, I have to say that by far, KU ranks far higher than KSU. However, given that KSU's old coach has returned to the Wildcats football team, there may be some fierce redemption, even against my favorite team, Texas Tech. I can only hope that these words are not prophetic and a curse against those who face KSU this upcoming FB season.

Yeah really Royals and Chiefs are on the Missouri side...Kansas City, Missouri but the Wizards on in Kansas...but yes many headquarters are in Kansas...i live in Kansas and i will say we are snobs here...we have some of the richest people living here aka Johnson County..one of the richest counties in the U.S. but pretty much Kansas is pretty awesome

Johnson County is not even in the top 50 for wealthiest counties. I can think of four Minneapolis counties that are wealthier than JOCO. JOCO is so overrated and snobby it is ridiculous. Most people there have no concept of the real world outside their bubble.
