Ms Betty, I love this video. It makes me feel like I'm at home watching my Grandma cook again. Question - does the sweet condensed milk, along with the sugar and syrup, send this pie into sweetness overdrive? Or is the salt you added enough to take that edge off? I'm curious because I've always found general pecan pie recipes (sugar/karo syrup) to be very sweet on their own. I know I should just try and see for myself but I'm not that good baking. :)
@SuperJonas9999 No. The way we get condensed milk is in the form of sweetened condensed milk. Regular milk is closer to condensed milk, but the condensed version is more concentrated.
I will be making you pecan pie this week for my family's thanksgiving. Silly as it seems (for a 28 year old lady), this is the first time I am making pie from scratch. I will also be using your best homemade pie crust recipe too! I'm relying on your expertise to help me out! Wish me luck :)
beautiful pie i make about 50 pies a day and they all start to look the same after awhile. i was searching for a new recipe ill let you know how it goes.
Hi Betty! I wanted to ask if it would be the same amount of sugar if I were to use a substitute, such as Splenda? I plan to make a pecan pie, for those in my family who are diabetic, for thanksgiving! Thank you for all your recipes! :) -Jessica
@1996RJD I think molasses alone would be too rich; you might be able to thin it down with water, so that it is the consistency of corn syrup. It will have a different taste in the finished pie, as well.
I haven't made this recipe yet but from the looks of it this will be beyond delicious and I do not like nuts at all. but the funny thing is that it doesn't look like it's full of pecans
Have been searching a long time for something like this, it is now my fav. and my moms and dad's when they come over. You are a true delight Betty thank you so much!!!!
@sarabeth1410 Hi Sara! I am delighted that you (and your parents) like this pie! It is my favorite pie to make, and it always comes out great! Thanks for your lovely comment!
Hi Betty, today I made this delicious pie and all I can say is thank you it was delicious. My mum loved it, my sister loved it (and she can be picky) of course I loved it too, I'll give some to my dad tomorow.
I really enjoyed this recipe it was a delight.

Seriously people, stop getting all worried about the corn syrup. There is absolutely nothing chemically more hazardous about corn syrup than regular cane sugar. Corn syrup will make the best pecan pie, period.
can u pls tell me if i can use pure cane dark syrup? i reallt want to try this recipe. but i couldn't figure out what syrup u used. pls tell me a.s.a.p thnx!

@anithfanz It is pretty sweet; I don't think you can change the recipe to make it less sweet and still be a pecan pie. You might consider something a little lighter, but similar--like chess pie.

@hodgrix Not really. Sometimes I eat more than I intend, like when splitting a pizza with my husband. I might intend to have 2 pieces and end up having 3 or 4!
hi, i tried to make a pecan pie like the store brand and it had the consistency of custard the receipe i tried didnt have brown sugar, salt or flour and i used the light instead of dark syrup i followed the exact recipe what gives? i'm going to try yours!
Hey there, Betty, great cooking video. I was wondering why you put in the flour in the sugar/egg/syrup mixture. Does the flour help to make it set easier? Thanks!
That looks absolutely delicious! I've never seen evaporated milk used in pecan pie. What does it do for the pie? (It sure takes some willpower to keep my eyes on the food.)

And they DOUBLE coupons up to .75 cents. Love Kroger & your vids.
This is a Greta recipe! To make it really fantastic, you must use real whipped cream!!! Way better taste and presentation!!! And the pecans should be chosen for taste/region over perfect shape.
Hi Betty, love the recipe and your instructional. I want to give this a shot however I can only find golden syrup in the UK. I've read on google that it can be used as a substitute but what I'd like to know is should I use the same measurement as you did with the corn syrup i.e. 1 cup?
Thanks Betty looking forward to your reply and tackling this recipe. Looks scrumptious!
Hi! Thanks for your lovely comment! I am not familiar with golden syrup. I would think that it would work just fine. The color is not important to this pie, just the flavor and consistency. This is the greatest pecan pie in the world! You do need to protect the crust with aluminum foil (just a little over the edge), because the pie cooks a long time, and you don't want the crust over-browned! Good luck! Thanks for your sweet comment!
No, I've never tried it, but I think I can adapt my pumpkin pie recipe to incorporate my pecan pie recipe, and it really sounds great! Thanks for the tip--I will definitely try it!!! I think regular milk would be a better choice. The sweetened condensed milk is very sweet, and with the dark syrup in the pie, it would just be too sweet! The regular milk will taste the same, and you just need the liquid to mix with the other ingredients. Thanks for your question!

I have been saving my pumpkin pie recipe for posting close to Thanksgiving. Thanks again--we may be eating Pecan-Pumpkin Pie thisThanksgiving!!
