Someone reccomended this to me.They need not have bothered,I know it like the back of my hand. The thing is that this is now concidered a "cult" music. Not many years ago,it was simply music.
In fact, this is a truthful and lively example of what was called folk music,a way to record in song the oral history of a people,a generation, now long gone.
My wish and hope for the future is that 1000 years hence, this song shall be still remembered for what it still is.The genius of Luke Kelly.
There are a few places that still hold sessions. The O'd Dubliner pub in town and Comhaltas in Monkstown are good venues, if you live anywhere near them.
So it's off to celtic park, its where I long to be
To see beram kayal in midfield with Joe Ledley!
With commons on the left and broony on the right
And stokesy n Gary hooper scoring goals in green and white!!

@neohip On the day the earth dies, someone, somewhere will be pissed up singing the dubliners. You can bet your life on it.

Antoinette, a shame to think that these pubs/sessions are disappearing. Maybe go out West ( Doolin/ Galway) for some spontaneous balladeering?
