the chromatic is more difficult to master... .the chroms have to be tweeked to sound bendy and soulfull, otherwise they sound like an acordian or melodica.. I get that.. but you get a reedless chrom, have the reeds tweeked, (arched).. and tuned properly...pluss, the diatonic does have a more bluesy capasity....just my opinion... I'm not that skilled on either instrument.. I'm a drummer and paino player.. but is what my ear tells me... and the Chromatic is more diffficult to master I believe...

I would agree that the diatonic sounds generally better in most any genre, despite its immediate limitations.

Larry Adler and Stevie Wonder both got beautiful tone out of the Chromatic but this does not sound to good.

Great playing, but please please please can someone tell me why don't people use chromatic harmonicas for this sort of thing. Doesn't matter how good you are on the diatonic it aint got the black notes and the bends/overblows always sound crap (even if you are Howard L!).

@louispippie because some people enjoy playing the diatonic harmonica. If you ask a tenor player why he plays Parker tunes on the tenor instead of on the alto as he should what kind of response do you expect? Some people play all the saxophones, but most play either tenor or alto. With harmonicas this is even worse; the chromatic is a completely different instrument, it sounds different, but more importantly it feels different to play. I for one do not like to play it at all, I would

@louispippie I would rather stop playing all together than play chromatic. You say that the overblows/bends are awful. To me every note on the chrom sounds awful.

@TKoorn Nice work on the harp. I am with you: I do not have my overblows dialed in yet, but i would rather do without those notes than play the chromatic. The xtreme bender is nice, but ... again, different spacings on the holes, and it feels weird; that said, i will be working on it before the chromatic. I really hate the very shallow bends on the chromatic.
