  • Simon seems to have way more tolerance than Fat Blue.

  • Why the hell would Grover put an elephant, a telephone, and a guitar between 2 pieces of bread? And why would those things be in the kitchen?

  • ...not only that, but the elephant sandwich was "the special", and the guitar the "sandwich du jour", implying multiple elephants and guitars available in the kitchen...

  • That's got to be an elephant FIGURINE!

  • Simon the Soundman causes trouble wherever he goes!

  • I totally remember watching this with my mom and laughing and laughing!!! love it!

i wonder if simon soundman is fat blue's bro?

  • He is. In fact he hints so in this very sketch. The 'brother' that recommended Charlie's? Fat Blue. = )

  • fat blue looks weird very weird. this must be one of first sketches

  • That's not Fat Blue. That's Simon Soundman - he's a totally separate character.

  • Actually, he's his brother!

  • And when Grover says a telephone sandwich is delicious, Grover seems rather like he may be Cookie Monster's brother!

  • Wait! The very last thing Simon orders... No!

  • I love Simon the Soundman. And adding Waiter Grover makes it even better. Do you have the sketch where Simon Soundman does the weather report? It's hilarious! Please let me know.

  • LOL!

Why would Fat Blue/Mr. Johnson recommend his brother the restaurant where he always gets so poorly served by Grover (and mostly faints in the end)? :-)

  • Probably was mad at him and wanted revenge.

  • Simon is Mr. Johnson's brother.

  • It's been rumored that, yes.

  • I remember this sketch. That Simon Soundman was weird. Poor Grover. What year was this? It had to be in the 70's.

  • According to Muppet Wiki, this clip was from 1974.

  • I always liked whenever Simon went to Grover's restaurant. You'd think it's the only restaurant on Sesame Street. He could always go to Hooper's.

  • That is not a guitar, it's a ukulele! Let's count the tuning pegs, children! Ready? 1... 2.... 3.... 4!

  • Why would a restaurant even have a telephone sandwich on the menu? I really can't imagine there'd be much call for it.

  • "Call" for it! LOL, that's a good one!

  • I tried the guitar sandwich. Too stringy. But I did enjoy the drum roll.

  • Stop! You guys are killing me! LOL

  • What do you use to play a drum roll.. bread sticks?

  • I always crack up when Simon says he doesn't want the guitar sandwich.

  • They do sound the same just like that.

  • omg whats that short clip at the end??? so familiar!

  • his brother is mean to recommend Grover's place

  • I bet Simon would love some ribbit, ribbit, ribbit legs.

  • Just once I'd like to hear Simon say he's going to screw somebody's wife.

  • Hmmm, a telephant or elephone sandwich? It sounds yummy.

  • Hey! Your elephant sandwich ate my peanut butter sandwich.

  • Yes, I'll have the telephant sandwich... er, I mean the elephone sandwich... I mean...

  • "Would you like some wine with your elephant sandwich, sir? We have a nice Peanut Noir.."

  • With that guitar sandwich, he could be one half of Simon Soundman and Garfunkel.

Actually, he wouldn't even need the sandwich!

  • "Hey, waiter! What's taking so long with my sandwich? What are you doing back there, choking your buk-buk-buk-buk-uck?"

  • Nah he's probably spanking his ooh ooh ooh ah! ah! ah!

  • LOL

  • "Waiter! What's taking so long with my telephone sandwich?"

"I am sorry, sir, but the line is busy."

  • LOL Good one ^_^

  • Very funny. Simon at the restaurant that normally torments "Mr. Blue"

    ~Ra'akone

  • Oh, wait. I was wrong.

  • Hey... THIS must be Fat Blue's first encounter with Grover[ even though his name was simon].

  • Naw, Fat Blue is Simon Soundman's brother. They are both performed by Jerry Nelson, however.

  • Fat Blue's got a name and it's Mr. Johnson.

  • Right. But most people usually call him "Fat Blue." That's also the name of the puppet pattern used for Mr. Johnson and Simon Soundman.

  • Bring me a hot *woof, woof, woof* with mustard and relish.

  • One Hot *woof, woof, woof* with mustard and relish comming right up. ^_^

  • Thanks for posting this, it's one of my favorites and brings back memories!

  • Again, if Simon just simply say "I want a chicken sandwich" he would have gotten one!!!

  • That would be simple. But he's Simon Soundman, not Simple Simon. "Simon says... buk-buk-buk-buk-uck!"

  • Wait a minute! If he could only say "Buk buk buk uck." in this one how do think he could make farm animal sounds in the china shop and then say what they were after that? And why is it when he told Ernie about his car the first few times he makes car sounds and the last part he says "...to call the garage to fix my car."?

  • I imagine speech therapists are always chasing him, trying to study his one-of-a-kind speech impediment.

He's even made all the the medical journls---look him up: Johnson, Simon D., or Mr. Simon D. "Soundman" Johnson.

    ;]

  • LOL! That's a pretty tiny elephant-and Charlie didn't even cook it!I swear that those sandwiches appear to cater to Cookie Monster's eating habits."Wrong number on Telephone sandwich"

  • There was also a Simon segment that took place at Ernie and Bert's apartment. Simon stopped by because his car broke down. It took Ernie a long time to figure out that Simon merely wanted to use the phone to call for a tow truck.

  • Can you please play the clip that was ending when this started? And thank you for this great classic!

  • I haven't seen this in YEARS!!! I forgot all about it. Great stuff!!!

  • I'm glad THIS was here too. I always forgot what the first sandwich was.

  • hey do you know where i can get the skit at the beginning?! not me! thanks!

  • There are four Simon Soundman parts. The music store, the china store, the hardwere store and this one!

  • Simon Soundman was his name? Cool, I never knew that until now.

  • Can you uploud Simon Soundman in the music store?

  • LOVE IT! I had completely forgotten about this one. I always thought this guy was Fat Blue. Obviously not. Does anyone have the skit where Grover serves Fat Blue "number" specials, sings this terrible "Granada" song, and one by one drops each dish on the floor? One of my favorites. . . would love to see it here.

  • Simon and Fat Blue CAN'T be brothers. Do you think Fat Blue would recommend Charlie's Restaurant (and Grover the waiter) to even his worst enemies?

  • I beleive they're brothers

  • Maybe he was getting Simon back for some prank he'd pulled on him.

  • I thought this was Fat Blue, but I guess Simon the Soundman must be his brother then. But those sandwiches today--maybe Charlie's is becoming more avant-garde? :)

  • Thank goodness he didn't order Eggs Danny Thomas Style.

  • You totally rule, I haven't seen this in YEARS!!! Thanks for bringing back the memories.

  • "You know this man, he's with his raincoat on? He's really weird, Charlie." :) The one Simon Soundsman sketch I remember the most is when he's buying a saw. At the end, the teller makes a cashier noise.

  • I like the one where Old Macdonald Is in the china shop with Simon and wants to sell one of his animals! And then the animals have a smashing good time!

  • Grover really said "You know this man, he eats with his raincoat on? He's really weird, Charlie."

  • I like the humor! It's great for kids AND adults!

  • Simon should have gotten a job in the movies as a sound effect artist!

  • rofl, good one! lol

  • the elephant sandwich would be the most credible one (although you might get letters from PETA about that one!)

  • Lol, your guitar sandwich.

  • I just sat here and thought to type in "grover restaurant" and the video I was looking for pops up. man, youtube rules. I don't even sell on ebay anymore.

  • I was thinking of this sketch the other day...Thank you!

  • I also saw Simon Soundman in the Grover the Elevator Operator sketch where he could only take 5 people in. Classic! Thanks again for posting this!

  • yeah does anyone have that one? That was hilarious!

  • Yeah, I have it.

  • post it please?

  • Awesome! I definitely remember this one- Simon Soundman is great!- Wonder if his brother that he mentioned is Fat Blue? :-)

It was also cool seeing a bit of the sand drawings and the cartoon starting at the end- both of which I remember as well.

  • would be a coincidence if that were true! lol

  • I think I actually remember this one, and I don't usually have memories of the muppet sketches. Simon the Soundman (was that his name?) also appeared on one of my childhood Sesame Street LPs. He pops up on "Ernie's Hits" in the sketch entitled "The Man Who Needs Help."

  • Been waiting/hoping for the "sound man." :)

I noticed the sand drawing/animations prior to this sketch. I forgot all about those...seems like there was one of those in almost every episode.

  • yeah i forgot about those sand drawings too until i saw that, this Grover skit is funny :)
