You should really fix your video. It's not "Asian leopard", it's Asian Leopard Cat - a huge difference. Only people who don't know anything about biology would believe that cats and leopards or Servals and leopards could produce kittens. Ashera is a scam anyway. Anybody who knows anything about cat breeds knows it.
@WorldOfHumanWreckage I see, I guess we cannot trust the reporters these days to actually do the research. Google "Ashera cat scam" or/and "Murky background of Ashera and Allerca" - the latter gives a complete list of Simon Brodie's scams.
If this is really a new breed, it was created only a few years ago. How can they claim that it lives 25 years. They seem to just make it up. A wild guess at best.
Regarding the controversial genetics of this breed, I don't care, what matter to me is their looks and also their personnality.
@Mey771 "Ashera" isn't a breed, it's a scam. The real breed name is Savannah, it has existed for 15-20 years and has been registered with TICA (The International Cat Association - the largest registry of pedigreed cats) for over 10 years. You can easily find everything about their personalilty on the internet. Based on what a savannah breeder said in Ashera vs Savannah blog this is an F2 Savannah. BTW, I've never seen a savannah breeder claim they live longer than an average cat.
@pjrtaw And how did you get it? 1. There is no such breed as Ashera. Ashera is a Savannah cat resold by a well known scam artist for several times the actual price. 2. Given as Savannah cat rescue has a waiting list, I seriously doubt you could find one in a shelter. 3. The price varies by generation, so unless you got an F1 or F2 (this cat is likely an F2), you got a different cat. 4. How do you know you got a Savannah? Did you do a DNA test?
@pjrtaw Google "Ashera cat scam" or/and "Murky background of Ashera and Allerca" . Ashera is a scam it's a Savannah cat that a well known scam artist with a criminal record and a history of similar scams resells at several times the price. DNA tests on Ashera cats available for testing proved them to be Savannah cats. Now, it's possible that the lady who gave you the cat fell pray to this scam. By the way, you say the cat was given to you when you were younger. How old is your cat?
@pjrtaw "Ashera" scam started at around 2007, so just for that reason the woman who gave you the cat couldn't have possibly bought it. She could've bought a Savannah cat as Savannah cats were around for a while and registered with TICA I believe around 2000. But if she'd bought a Savannah cat from a breeder, she'd have papers to prove the parentage. But there are other spotted breeds - Bengals, Egyptian Maus or even mixed breed. You can easily find pictures and info on personality.
@tosendprashan No, asheras and savannahs are the same. Serval is a wild cat. Serval was crossed with domestic cats years ago to create a Savannah cat. All offspring of Serval and domestic are Savannah cats by definition. Ashera is a scam, a savannah cat bought from a savannah cat breeder and resold as "Ashera" at a huge premium. There might've been cases of Servals resold as "Asheras" too, and there is one Ashera video here that features actual Serval, but usually Ashera is a Savannah.
thanks for reply, but i had done a little research later myself n found that asheras are bred from servals and cheetas. i am not sure is it legal to rear a serval or savannah as a pet in my country, srilanka. i havent seen any of them in our houses
@tosendprashan Your research is completely wrong. They aren't bred from cheetahs, I am not sure where you got that, but this is pure nonsense. Thinks about it - difference in sizes, gestation period. Even with Savannahs, it's difficult - high kitten mortality, tiny litters at first generations. Read / google the following 1. wiki article on Ashera 2. "Ashera cat scam" 3. "Murky background of Ashera and Allerca".
ya you are right. i jst luked through videos on youtube only, as was lazy to read. in a video i remem someone said that wrong stuff. now i just searched in google n wiki ,found its true wht u said . thanks for informing. :)
There's a lot of debate about whether it's just another savannah cat or really a cross of 3 species. They don't tell us HOW the species are crossed and I believe only one organization/website carries Asheras.
The Savannah cat looks pretty cute too, if you buy one that looks closer to a domestic cat in appearance.
@KarakalLynx wiki and many other places tell it's a badly bred F1 savannah. It looks "wilder" because it's an F1 or F2, so they are closer to serval. Savannah does have some bengal blood in it and bengal came from asian leopard cat and domestic, I believe first savannahs were serval+bengal i.e. serval, asian leopard cat and domestic blood. All the secrecy surrounding this breed makes it even more suspicious. All they have are claims of one breeder who was in trouble with the law in the past.
If you stop it at 29 seconds it tells you why =/ not only that. these cats are literaly bred to order. Hypoallergenics are naturally more expensive because more work goes into making them that way. I don't own one of these beauties and even I know that.
@DreamdancerKatmerre It's never been proven that they are actually hypoallergenic. It's something the breeder claims. The secrecy he surrounds this breed with is something suspicious too. Add to it that a DNA test on some of these cats showed them to be a savannah.
"Ashera" cats are genetically Savannahs and only marketed as a different breed:
"The Ashera is hybrid cat marketed by Lifestyle Pets. The cat is an alleged domestic/wild hybrid cat, a hybrid between the African serval, Asian leopard cat, and a domestic housecat. However, the authenticity of the breed has been challenged, as the only known examples of "Ashera" cats have been proven by DNA testing to be Savannah cats, an existing breed.[3]
$22,000!!! Does this cat at least talk or do your taxes, not even something cool!? That's ridiculous, I'd rather just buy a Silver back Gorilla on the black market and train it to hunt for Ashera Cats.
NO animal is worth 22,000 dollars! :P And I LOVE animals, but that is really crazy. And I don't see how it can be part lion and leopard and w/e--it'd be bigger
The Ashera is hybrid cat,a hybrid between the African serval, the Asian leopard cat, and a domestic housecat.and they start at 1500 -2000 so there not all that much heres im guessing is the nid to top end tho hope i helped :)
cats sold & labeled "Ashera" are actually hybrid, Savannah cats. The results of official DNA tests confirmed "Asheras" are F1 Savannahs bred by Chris Shirk of Cutting Edge Savannahs. US Fish and Wildlife supervised the taking of blood samples
if you're an idiot, apparently it's pretty much the same as a savannah which is only like 3000$. I found an article about the guy who owns Allerca who breeds Asheras and he's been charged for all sorts of scams. Name is Brodie try googling it.
Prolly because it's mixed with a leopard, lives up to 25 years and gets so big. So if it does meet all those standards I guess there making you "get more for your money" so to speak. I wouldn't pay that much for a cat though, maybe after a few years the price tag will go down(?) I mean cats can reproduce pretty darn quickly but then why are they so rare? sorry i answered your question with another question

well, can we say that these breed of cat is like a mix of a savannah cat and a bengal cat?
TheCutekitteh 2 years ago
The difference between a savannah and a ashera is that the ashera has a hypoallergenic gene which the savannahs do not.
aenge9884 2 years ago
that makes it a hypoallergenic savannah.

Cats and Dogs both usually reach their maximum size by the time they are one. This cat may get a little bigger but not much.

The Ashera Cats reach full growth by their second year... You can't apply normal cat / dog time frame on something that isn't a normal cat.
You pay $22,000 because you want the genetic scientific advance of a species.
