To call the pickups "50/60s" is silly IMO. As a Strat user, there's a humungous difference between 50s and 60s type tones. That being said, these do sound good. Much more 50s IMO.
@TheRealRayJ -Well, if you actually knew how these pups are made you probably would change your opinion;) It's really the perfect name for these pups. When it comes down to the actual science of this stuff Ron has it down like no other.
Check out the Black Guard Book for starters. Good read I'll tell you. Real facts based on science, NOT opinions and personal taste.
Awesome tone and playing, I'm perplexed on how to contact Ron Ellis, I can't find anything on him anywhere and I'm dying to order some pickups, could you help me out?
love it. I was wondering how these compare to the Fred Stuart pick-ups. Im about to buy some for a strat style guitar Im building and wondered your take on it. Im shooting for a SRV tone. Also where did you pick these up at. Thanks for your demo this is exactly what I was looking for and you nailed the "Lenny" tone awesome
awesome Jacob! Nice playing! Hey got a set for my D'Pergo tele. We spoke on the phone. Amazingly musical pickups. Very very happy with them. Gonna get a strat set next! Still havent tried the Warehouse speakers we spoke about.
I have an 89 US Std Strat. Do you think the pickups will bring the guitar to life or do you think it has alot to do with the guitar too? What strat(s) do you play?
There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that any Ron Ellis pickups will bring noticeably more character and overtones to any guitar they are put in. I use USA Custom guitars. I buy the parts and put them together. Luthier, Ed Reynolds does the setups, fretwork and nut. Ron Ellis are the best pickups so far I've ever come across. The guitar does matter, but installing these pups will be a huge improvement guarantied.
Props to the San Diego boys...Ron Ellis, Scott Lentz...some of the best shit coming from them there parts!!
