How exactly is this Caballero's version? It's basically the same thing as KY's. And I don't think they accidentally ended up making their own transcriptions that ended up this similar
i went to a recital of jorge two months ago, it's just amazing. Dvorak's symphony was so...no words...too much music for one night, eduardo isaac played after caballero :D the best 4 dolars i have ever spended xDDD
@BHayley That's a technique called tremolo, and it's done applying the following fingering: p, a, m, i. The thumb plays the bass line while the other three fingers play the tremolo (mandolin picking, as you know it).
Lipendi, you are wrong in your comparison. Caballero's version is cleaner than Yamashita's. Yamashita deserves credit for developing new techniques but at times he tends to be sloppy.
wow, if you mention the word Yamashita, you get negative ratings. Jorge is great, but Fisk has absolutely no comparison to him. He literally destroys the music at the expense of speed, don't confuse the two. You can be intense while preserving music
WOW...JUST WOW. Thank god master Yamashita has found a true heir. I look forward to hearing more new guitarists playing "solo guitar symphony" works, the very genre established by master Yamashita.
Did Caballero play this piece at age 19?!?! I think he must be about 30 now, because he won that prestigious competition at age 19 in 1996. I saw him perform The New World Symphony last month in front of a NEW YORK CROWD and got an INSTANT STANDING OVATION.
Anyway, did he really play this well at age 19? WOW.
I also wanted to add that players like Yamashita and Fisk have are set back in my opinion. They interpret everything extremely fast and can't help it. They can't play slow. Did you ever cry at a Yamashita concert? Segovia and Bream only played fast when the music called for it, but you could eat their notes, they are so beautiful. And look at the refined playing of Williams. Williams is on a level by himself. I think Jorge is a poet. I love his contrast and color and I love his slow movements.
You really don't know what you're talking about. Yamashita plays slow pieces with the fullest emotion and the greatest tones and textures as well. You should really go to his concerts sometime.
I agree with you blhsing, because I went to a recital by yamashita this year, and was the most amazing concert I saw, only after the one by russell I was on to also :) yamashita can play so beatifully tarrega, so slow and so correctly, he is one of the best!
first I'd like to say that Caballero is extremely hubmle and sincere. He is a gentleman. What I love about his playing is that he is a very sensitive player besides playing so fast; where's Yamashita is in a horse race. I think Yamashita is very harsh and I don't enjoy that type of playing.
This version is very nice, I love seeing it played as I've listened to Yamashita's version 250 times......the thing that Caballero isn't yet duplicating is the tone, Kazuhito seems to have unlimited techniques to acheieve his different sounds. But this guy has time.
I wonder who are you Lipendi? have you played a piece in public once and perfect? are you an opinionist?have you played some Yamashita Transcription? the guitar has a further more misterious and complex technique than other instruments, ther is no point of comparison. What Caballero does is amazing and brave.I know what Im saying,Im a recitalist.Play it better Lipendi! if not, that's only bla,bla..
When Paganini came up many people said that no one could play like him, that he made an agreement with the devil, and many other non-rational ideas, nowadays we can see many children play like Paganini, with the same technique level i mean. So, to conclude, Caballero is making a terrific interpretation but the most important part of this interpretation it`s the fact that it opens a new era in guitar technique development. Thanks for post this. Have a nice day.
I think that Yamashita, as many other virtuosos in history (Paganini, Liszt, etc.), it`s just the start of a new era in the development of guitar technique, in other words, we can play better than him, Caballero make it, i think that many of us, maybe not everybody but many people, also can play as good or better than Yamashita, of course, after a great time of rational practice.
I have listened the album `From the new world` where Yamashita plays this transcription and i have watched the videos where Yamashita plays this piece, and I must say that in many parts Caballero is playing it better, with more precision.
I must agree with lipendi, maybe, don't know why, somehow, we can have the idea that he (J. Caballero) is going to make a mistake, that idea can happen, but i must say that it`s just a fact (the existence of that idea), there is no reason for that, in other words, that idea it`s the product of other ideas that, in many cases, have no sense, so it`s a non-rational thing and it shouldn`t be part of a serious critic or comment or we just shouldn`t take it seriously.
My friend your totally mistaken.I've played all Yamashita Transcription in public, and I can tell you that Maestro Caballero make a superb performance of the Symphony!Yamashita also make mistakes and he's still a got dam genius! So change your way to apreciate music and performers, your're not the only one who understand and worship Yamashita.Caballero is Amazing! Stop your sad devotion to perfection!
I agree with you. Yamashita is great but Caballero is also great and my ears tell me that his version of this difficult piece is cleaner than Yamashita's
Las transcripciones de Yamashita deben ser unos de los sucesos màs importantes en la reciente historia de la guitarra. ¿porquè le tienen tanta envidia? malditos puristas...
Thanks so much for posting this video, I've been waiting years to see a video of Jorge Caballero, I got the issue of Guitar Review where he recorded this wonderful piece, his playing is unbelievable!!!!
This is soo excellent! Really! I have the impression to hear the orchestra...

This is the best guitar version of this song that ive heard at least. No one even comes close to his near perfection. Cudos to you Jorge Caballero.

How does he do the "mandolin picking" on the first court? Fluttering the "i" finger?
BHayley 2 years ago

@GarguzGilva That actually is not a tremolo he's doing at the beginning. He is indeed "mandolin picking" with his "i" finger
tplaisted22 1 year ago
@tplaisted22 Yeah, I'm sorry. I had already figured it out with the music sheet, but I forgot to comment so that I could rectify.
Have you tried it yet? It's a really difficult technique.
Thanks for the correction. :)

@GarguzGilva haha yes - extremely tough technique. Some of this piece is just unplayable for me

Obviously you doesnt know enough Yamashitas recordings? He plays the best slow movements ever! Jorge is a kind of occidental version of K.Y.
