Very interesting comparisons. On studio recordings they both sound great. But I saw Christina perform a medley of her hits on an awards show recently (I can't remember which awards show this was, but she opened the show) and in a live setting, she didn't appear to be a powerful singer at all, it was kinda hard to watch. Cyndi on the other hand always sounds good live...
It would be fun to see this same sort of "contest" using live recordings, untouched by studio producers.

great job! big Cyndi fan, but Christina sure has got pipes too. The thing I notice about Christina is that she sounds like Cyndi does when Cyndi starts to sound raw and uncontrolled, but brings it back in after a second or so of raw singing, but Christina sings that way most of the time.
Both have very raw & beautiful styles. Most young (under 35) are gonna prefer Christina and most 35+ are gonna prefer Cyndi.
I see nothing wrong with liking who you like, but as in having classics? Cyndi.
Cyndi has a 4 1/2 octave range, not sure what Xtina has. Cyndi is definitely more versatile, can sing in more styles and genres, and she's also a LOT better live, always sounds like her records, while Xtina almost always sounds like crap when she sings live.

Cyndi's better for many reasons. I love them both, they're both incredible talents. Christina goes for the falsetto notes too often, avoiding anything as high as a G (maybe an F5?) in full voice, without going just to falsetto. Falsetto isn't very impressive (imo) or is whistle register...only full voice really matters.

Someone said that Christina can go lower than Cyndi. I beg to differ. Cyndi has songs where she goes as low as F3. I love Christina, but she can't go that low. However, this is a high-note comparison. Cyndi wins the battle, hands down, as she belts out a C7. Unfortunately, Christina can't do that. She's sexier than hell, though!

that is so true, the criteria of a good singer is how they perform live, not only studio recordings, xtina is also good in live esp on studio, but the point is, Cyndi lauper was and Is always better on her live shows and studio. Try also to watch both xtina and cyndis live performance and compare, you will cyndi is an icredible singer.

Very interesting comparisons. On studio recordings they both sound great. But I saw Christina perform a medley of her hits on an awards show recently (I can't remember which awards show this was, but she opened the show) and in a live setting, she didn't appear to be a powerful singer at all, it was kinda hard to watch. Cyndi on the other hand always sounds good live...
It would be fun to see this same sort of "contest" using live recordings, untouched by studio producers.

great job! big Cyndi fan, but Christina sure has got pipes too. The thing I notice about Christina is that she sounds like Cyndi does when Cyndi starts to sound raw and uncontrolled, but brings it back in after a second or so of raw singing, but Christina sings that way most of the time.
Both have very raw & beautiful styles. Most young (under 35) are gonna prefer Christina and most 35+ are gonna prefer Cyndi.
I see nothing wrong with liking who you like, but as in having classics? Cyndi.

Cyndi has a 4 1/2 octave range, not sure what Xtina has. Cyndi is definitely more versatile, can sing in more styles and genres, and she's also a LOT better live, always sounds like her records, while Xtina almost always sounds like crap when she sings live.

this doesn't represent what she can really do or has done. There are some lower register and higher register songs in her catalog that could have been used but were not. But in actuality only 2 people can tell us what the range is: Cyndi Lauper and Katie Agresta.

Cyndi's better for many reasons. I love them both, they're both incredible talents. Christina goes for the falsetto notes too often, avoiding anything as high as a G (maybe an F5?) in full voice, without going just to falsetto. Falsetto isn't very impressive (imo) or is whistle register...only full voice really matters.
