There's a pretty entertaining documentary about Trolls2, made by the little kid in this movie(when he got older and realized the film was a cult hit). Everyone involved, except for the clueless director, admits that the movie and the acting are embarassingly bad.

I can't criticize the guy. He's a dentist, not an actor. He answered a casting call hoping to get hired as an extra. The directors (a man and wife team who were apparently major-league assholes) shoved him into a starring role instead. In interviews he comes off as a very decent person. Don't blame the actor. He isn't one. Blame the directors instead.
