needs bigger shells, bigger shells need more storage, and the construction would need to be overdone for higher recoil, which would mess up the existing aiming stability. Also reloading would need to be overthought all these little things. Its not like changing a cars engine actually. And the M1 has about the best range/precision results worldwide, so no need to change anything, is there.

Nope! Tungsten is used when there is need to defeat armor and solid objects! A regular artilerry shell is usually not even prefragmented, and there is no scientifitic way in which it falls apart. It is always coincidental, and what makes up shrapnel is the actual casing of the shell, and the debris found on the ground.

@willutw This is DPICM, isn't it? Not much of a shockwave on those. Whenever you're inside the fatal blast radius of a conventional explosive, you'll probably be swiss cheese from the shrapnel anyways. Whereas a rogue piece of metal can kill from if you're standing 200m away from a normal hand grenade.
