Every time I see a peacock doing a feather display I always wonder what it looks like at the root of the feathers, there must be a kind of pad where the tail feathers are implanted, and erectile muscles that make the feathers stand up and even shake at the bird's will. The call of the male really carries far. Mine can be heard over 1/4 mile away easily. If someone doesn't expect them to call, it can scare them shitless when the male throws back his head and belts one out. lol But they defiitely are stunning to see in person. :)

Googoop, mine roam free on my property and roost at night in a tall oak tree in the yard. In the winter they roost in the chicken coop, which is pretty big and has rafters up at the top. They actually eat out of my hand. The color os so much more vivid in person than on video. :)

I incubate, hatch and raise peafowl free range and I have never been chased or challenged. I have found them to be serene, docile and even affectionate. I can walk right up to the males while they're fanned and touch their feathers and they hardly show any notice. I gotta admit that they're so much more stunning in person than in any viideo. They're totally amazing birds.
