What happened before was the attack on jews was that they were preparing for a attack on Madina and were gathering lot of weapons in their fort. They were doing this along with disbelievers of makkah. Meanwhile the muslims and disbelievers of of makkah made a pact (which was later on broken by the disbelievers of makkah). After that, muslims attacked Kyber. Muslims just took the battle to them. The jews were already planning the attack.
