actually, medical evidence shows that circumcision can actually decrease the statistical likelihood a male will contract HIV from a sexual partner by up to 50%. Although of course this was not the original intention of circumcision.
@benjonsonable There is a confounding factor in that statement. Just because there is a higher prevalence of disease in the US doesn't mean it is easier to spread amongst circumcised Americans. It could also be explained by factors including more sexual partners, not using protection, more IV drug use....or whatever. I'm not sure why, I'm just saying those are some examples that could also explain why there is more HIV in the US.

I am not expert about it but I am pretty sure circumsized male means less disease. The most common form of FGM is the removal of the clitoral hood, the exact homologue of the foreskin. If you're referring to the buildup of smegma in intact men, that's normal. Women produce it too, and it's inevitable that people's hygiene will deteriorate as they age. You're not making a compelling argument.

@benjonsonable There is a confounding factor in that statement. Just because there is a higher prevalence of disease in the US doesn't mean it is easier to spread amongst circumcised Americans. It could also be explained by factors including more sexual partners, not using protection, more IV drug use....or whatever. I'm not sure why, I'm just saying those are some examples that could also explain why there is more HIV in the US.

I myself circumsized when I was 10 years old. Crying childrens are crying because of fear. Surgeon uses two portion anesthetic to right and left side of the organ. You cant feel anything. I am not expert about it but I am pretty sure circumsized male means less disease. Otherwise discusting example but even your pee dont stop dripping and nobody waits for it so it stays in that extra skin. God knows what kind of cerm, bacteria etc. can cause problem to you for this reason.

There are no shortage of doctors opposing circumcision, but until every one of them does, we need more to object to unnecessary and harmful genital surgery. I see you were relatively lucky to have been operated on with anesthesia; about 75% of those circumcised as neonates are not as fortunate.

@kanohane Do you understand what castration is? It's the removal of the testicles. Female castration would be the removal of the ovaries. That is not a variant of FGM.
The most common form of FGM is the removal of the clitoral hood, the exact homologue of the foreskin. If you're referring to the buildup of smegma in intact men, that's normal. Women produce it too, and it's inevitable that people's hygiene will deteriorate as they age. You're not making a compelling argument.

Read and listen to the accounts of the victims of FGM, and for every one of them who recognizes it as mutilation, plenty more will claim it is a sacred rite of passage. As absurd as it sounds, some even insist that they enjoy sex more after being clitoridectomized.

Circumcision is no different in that regard; you can argue about health all you like, but all genital cutting can be traced back to the upper paleolithic as a crude form of sexual control. It's obvious to all of us that FGM is horrific, but our own culture blinds us to the savagery of male circumcision. In Africa too, people are disinclined to challenge rituals so ingrained in their societies.

I am a Turkish, and had circumcision operation. One day, I wondered why I had this but even people don't know why they do it to their child. And I read that, circ. makes sexual-desire lower. If I marry and have a boy, I don't want him to circ. But if he doesn't have,propably he feels low and blue in high school, because he will be the one who has no circumcision. Then, his friends will joke with him. This piece of crap has to go. I wish I had power to change the people. But its even going worse.

Circumcision is a non-uniform amputation of a non-uniform body part. At best, some boys are left with enough tissue that they may be able to stretch-grow it into a mechanical approximation of a normal penis.

this had to be the most cruel thing a parent can do to their babies! i am glad i wasnt inthe room when my boys were circumcised after birth. i would have passed out from being unable to help them. doing it to them once they are old enough to understand what is about to happen, having to watch and listen as the boys before them have it done, and then having to know how bad it will hurt and having to fear it before it happens is indeed child abuse!!!

It's like saying your God made a defect. It's a really archaic practice and there's a time to stop these things. Chinese used to bind and break feet but they stopped that too because it's -inhumane-.
