Mojo you are right,he sounds amazingly close to Jim.I love their live performances.Sometimes Ian sounds out of breath ruining it somewhat, but Billy is always there with the Falcon wailing..they are awesome..
that's the reason The Doors always asked Ian to front for them back in the 90's and ealy 00's. His style, persona and raw stage presence AND his love for all things Morrison says it all.
I will tell you a funny story. August of 1989 I was up late one night watching one of those Canadian music channels on satalite(before the days of cable in my town) and I saw the video for Fire woman. I have been a Doors fan longer than I care to think but I was struck with the realization that Ian,who is a giant in his field did strike me as the next Jim Morrison. I'm not talking songwriting or talent but just the way he took over and his appearance made me think of Jim. I'm out of text room so
I so agree. I just saw them in Toronto on April 12, 2008 and they rocked!!! They are soooo underated. It is unfortunate that they broke up so many times and had a few years inbetween albums which is why I think they popularity died a bit. I love them and have since the 80's!!! True artists.
He was never refered to Jim Morrison until he was ASKED to join the Doors. Before that, not a word!! Did not seem to cross anyones mind. The Cult sounds NOTHING like the Doors thank God. He is Aboriginal and Jim is of Irish/Scottish ethnic heritage. They look nothing alike exept that he cut his to look the image of Jim (for a short time). Take a look at the Cult archives....Ian Astbury has and always has had his own style in ever which way.
Nice, but Ian's voice was so much more powerful in the late 80s. Maybe it's the mix. But the song is still kick ass, regardless.
