Buddy Rich was in awe of her as was Gene Krupa. They both agreed that Ellie could do more with her feet then they could with their hands. What an endorsement.
In Alice Levin's book, Ellie states that she had a better figure when she made her comeback than when she was 21! She certainly looks svelt and fit in this clip. How fantastic it would have been to see her live - especially the tap-drum jam that I've heard so much about. The clip with Buddy Rich gives a hint at what her comeback routine must have been like. Oh, for an Ipod in '61!
From information gleaned from Schultz's Bio-Bibliograpy, this performance was most likely EP's appearance on The Bell Telephone Hour, which aired on NBC December 17, 1963. She would have turned 51 a few weeks earlier. Amazing!!
