I turned 35 this year....and this show was soooo much a part of my past. I realized watching this how much I miss.....well my family, because we all knew everyone on the shows....the new actors, so forth,but the end I never saw coming. I wish watching this I could go back and see the farm for the 1st time, Holden and Lilly again meeting for the 1st time. Barbara being...well, her. CBS you broke my heart I always thought I'd watch these soaps with my lil girl and you ended it & I wasn't ready

I watched this show for a few years in the early 2000's, had to stop because I had to work and couldn't tape it everyday. I'f I would happen to be off and think about it I would watch it to see old faces but then all of a sudden all these new faces came in. I can't even remember who was with who last I watched. They've all been on again off again so many times...but let me just say I am shocked by Barbara and Henry! I was hoping this would be more of a reflection over the years.

Dusty Donovan doesn't deserve Janet...what a sad sight. Craig and Rosanna...they carried this show for years and now they're gone forever. So sad. No more Carly playing the bad girl. No more Margo? Vienna? Damn..I'm gonna miss them all.

Lisa wan't given a proper exit. Yet again Jean P gave her nothing but bit parts. Lisa made the show a hit. Eilleen Fulton who played Lisa deserved better than the way the writers and producers treated her.

I am so sad to see my wonderful "As The World Turns" end. I always felt at home when I watched the people of Oakdale. i called it my "homey" soap. I am 58 now and have watched it since I was a little girl of about 9 or 10. Good-bye to all the wonderful characters of Oakdale. Love you all!

If Helen Wagner lived long enough to be part of the final episode, it would have had much more meaning. Thank goodness Don Hastings put the emotion in the final episode. What caused the downfall? Doug Marland's death, pure and simple.

@AMEwrestling Agree 100%. This show's downward spiral began after Marland's death. Douglas Marland was THE BEST soap writer EVER. Marland wrote the show from 1985-early 1993. After his death, the show lost it's identity and direction.

@eric9590 You got that right. Without him, General Hospital would not have reached #1 in the ratings in 1979. Without him, Guiding Light would have been boring in the early 1980s. Of course without him, As the World Turns would have been canceled in the late 1980s. He died from complications following heart surgery in 1993.

@AMEwrestling Agreed. Without Marland, ATWT would have been canceled in the late 80's. I'm not sure if many viewers are aware of the fact that in the early 80's (prior to Douglas Marland taking over as head writer in 1985), ATWT was a mediocre show. When Marland came aboard, he re-established the Hughes as the core family, introduced the Snyders as well as other compelling, multi-dimensional characters and storylines.

yeah I know! I had been watching this soap since 1987 and I first got hooked on the Lily, Dusty, and Holden the stable boy love triangle. I really would have loved to see them finish out the show.

I still wish that Lisa would have reunited with husband #4, Grant Colman, but aside from that and Emma being absent from the final episode, this was a fine ending. I love how the last words spoken were "Good Night", especially since the first words spoken were "Good Morning, dear". Nonetheless, AS THE WORLD TURNS will be sorely missed!

I watch the abc soaps, but it's still sad to see another soap opera go. I recorded this one just to see how it ends. It was ok, but could've been better. I also thought that they would make a special opening sequence, instead of the title card.

I did the same thing you did and have the exact same reaction. I recorded "Guiding Light"s final week too and there's seemed much more of a tribute to its past, yet people still criticized it for no flashbacks, etc. To me, flashbacks are more for an anniversary show, not a finale. And no opening sequence??? Huh???
