wow, this is the biggest load of crap i've ever seen... Has any one ever even seen how huge the braking system is for airplanes like this... a semi-truck couldn't do this... hell, ten semi-trucks couldn't do this! "Actual braking demonstration," I suppose it did do a pretty good job at showing how a plane can stop when ITS brakes are applied and drags a truck helplessly behind it...
@babydoll101689 dude fords have really good brakes. the new ones can stop from 60 mph in less than 100ft. and like joe said "dont think Ford would want to risk getting a steep fine from the FCC for false advertising if the test wasnt real". thats very true
@matthewgleason75 So if it can stop from 60 mph in under 100 feet, assuming the truck weighs around 5000 pounds, I'd guess it might need around half a mile to stop itself and the 40,000-pound airplane from 100 mph. At least the kinetic energy would be around 25 times greater, and I'm assuming stopping distance would be proportional to that.
@babydoll101689 I think you're assuming the problem is harder than it really is. This isn't stopping a fully-loaded jumbo jet of 250-500 tons at 150 mph, but a 20-ton airplane ("30,000 pounds" is a bit of an underestimate) at around 100 mph. A fully-loaded semi-truck is twice that weight. And braking technology has improved a lot since the 1950s, when this plane was built. The only question is how long it took to stop--I'm sure it was much longer than normal.
thats wrong in so many ways, Tundra costs more, has a bigger engine, and tows and hauls less than an F150...what a joke. Ford takes the gold medal every time.
A bicycle could do this if the brakes would hold out long enough, and the runway was long enough. I'm sure they took some artistic license with the commercial but they physics involved are real. Heck if a human could run fast enough and long enough they could exert enough force to slow the plane to a stop but of course we would face-plant upon exit of the plane. It would still be funny of course.

You know how you can tell this is fake, and the behind the scenes video proved it was fake even better, but you can see the guys on the ground tell the pilots to stop. A fucking 1 ton pickup couldn't do that, so how is a 1/2 ton going to?
i highly doubt that seeing as how it says "actual demonstration" at the bottom of the screen. i dont think Ford would want to risk getting a steep fine from the FCC for false advertising if the test wasnt real, lol
what? it was in reverse the entire time. the engine was protected by something called a torque converter. And even then I'm sure it was in neutral once tires were on asphalt.
Exactly! Excellent point. Also, who in real life is going to try this anyway? Why don't they show commercials with trucks doing something that is not only possible, but realistic, like pulling a 10,000 lb. trailer through deep mud, or through a blizzard?
To make your F-150 even cooler, just take the 0 off the end, and then it's a Ford F-15.

look i know this is hard to believe. the truck shortend the landing distance, like most veichles would. physics.
but this was done for real, liek i said incredibly hard to believe.

The plane was landing, its engines were at idle.

It's definitely real, go watch how they made it, fricken awesome :p
Sputters 3 years ago
if it was real, the plane would not have lurched backwards after it came to a complete stop, meaning that the plane was also applying brakes...

the truck wasn't going in reverse
weaponx111 3 years ago
I think that was reverse thrust. Because you can hear them spool down at the end.
rubber314chicken 2 years ago
once a modern veichle is moving forward it is impossible well in north america to put the veichle in reverse.

rubber314chicken 2 years ago
that makes sense, but i know that teh truck did slow down teh plain to maybee 3/4 of its normal landing..... length.
halflife103 2 years ago
Yea, but it still works on gullible people.
rubber314chicken 2 years ago
yes thats why they made the commercial.
halflife103 2 years ago
Not fake. I watched them film this. You don't know, so don't say anything.

tell that to toyota, stopping their "mighty" tundra right before it goes off the edge of a cliff
the Ford, by the way, out-tows and out-hauls the tundra too. and next year's Ford is gonna flat out blow it outta the water
