Two things, first, no one is less than human, everyone is human. Second, athiests brought the comments on themselves by trying to have religious monuments, decorations, etc, torn down when they are in public. Athiests fail to realize that while we do have freedom of religion, this does NOT give them the right to demand christian things not be displayed. Christianity is an integral part of the US as well as its culture. That is what's aggrevating people against them.

The "transcending" feeling is not one that requires belief in a diety. Given the subjective nature of human perception and thought, it only takes a bit of work to get that feeling. Things like meditation can give that feeling, and they can give this feeling without theism.
People can have "religious"(esque) experiences that don't involve theism, like when people like Sagan admire the universe.
People can tug their own mental strings to create many things, with and without gods.

@DeMause There are no hard facts on how the earth came to be. It is all theory. As far as evolution is is said we all just evolved from monkeys. Well monkeys are still here. And also it would take a very long time if we did evolve so they used the "earth is extremely old approach. Even Dawkins stumbled when interviewed by Ben Stine in his movie Expelled. The list goes on and on. These facts that are claimed by scientists are based on theories.

As far has hard evidence goes, try DNA, Fossils, lab experiments using species that reproduce rapidly.
On the monkey topic, we did not evolve from chimps, we share a common ancestor. Not to mention even if we did come from chimps your arguemnt would be like saying you were given birth to by your mother. Why is your mother still around?

Matter of fact while I believe in God, I highly doubt some of the bible's writing, It was written by man. Then to make matters worse not all that was written by his followers was used. @HLGACIL I don't believe that there are cosmic accidents, the big bang theory has been proven since we can tell that all the heavenly bodies are moving through space away from the center. It was the jump start to every thing.
So why can't God of been behind THAT. Is that what is written in the bible? No. But Jesus in his teachings used metaphor over and over again, so why should I or any logical being think less in this? Genesis was the metaphor of creation. As for the time frame....

@DeMause The Nag Hammadi Scriptures...The Gospel of Thomas is one of the earliest accounts of Christ. It was not something "based" off the Bible as the writing was extremely different and was done as the oral tradition used to be. There are many accounts.

Two things, first, no one is less than human, everyone is human. Second, athiests brought the comments on themselves by trying to have religious monuments, decorations, etc, torn down when they are in public. Athiests fail to realize that while we do have freedom of religion, this does NOT give them the right to demand christian things not be displayed. Christianity is an integral part of the US as well as its culture. That is what's aggrevating people against them.

Many scientists are practicing Christians, or Muslims, or Buddhists, and several scientists have said they look for evidence of God's existence, whatever they call Him, to prove he exists rather than to disprove due to lack of evidence.

The "transcending" feeling is not one that requires belief in a diety. Given the subjective nature of human perception and thought, it only takes a bit of work to get that feeling. Things like meditation can give that feeling, and they can give this feeling without theism.
People can have "religious"(esque) experiences that don't involve theism, like when people like Sagan admire the universe.
People can tug their own mental strings to create many things, with and without gods.
