  • i grew up on this stuff!!! Awesome! In fact i still have some Vinyl of theirs :))

  • Signature sound....never to be reproduced! Their harmony was flawless. Tramaine's soprano is the perfect cherry on top. Anointed!

  • Tremain is so beautiful

  • Gospel needs to back to this. Today you don't get the sounds of the Hawkins , the Tommies, clark sisters. These groups set the standerd for the morden gospel sound. now it's all about talking over the song and doing all that crap.

  • R.I.P. Bonita Boyce, Logan School. We love you!

  • RIP

  • Oh yes!!!!

  • rip bishop!!

  • I pray that you Rest In Peace Bishop Walter Hawkins! My condolences to the Love Center Ministries for the loss of your brother in faith!

  • RIP Bishop Hawkins

  • THIS IS REAL SINGING

  • there are DEFINITLEY subtle lessons to be learned from this music for any intelligent musician or singer...

  • The Hawkins family came to the US Commerce Department (in D.C.) and sang this song for black history month 1985. Tramaine was not with them. Nevertheless, this mini concert was better than fantastic and simply awesome. Does anyone else remember this program? The Hawkins family and musicians came in a bus and parked outside our building on 14th Street NW. The program was free for Commerce Department employees.

  • You gotta realize that, in different regions of the US, gospel music sounds different...in the respects that some artists are influenced by jazz, blues, country, classical, etc...but the same result MUST be that the music has a basis to draw peope closer to a relationship w/ God. Gospel music makes its mark into American history as being one of the influential music genres that transcends from a Christian audience into the secular music charts, so we, must be doing something right <3

  • back then, black folks had a greaterrespect for God, the church, and good old fashion righteous living, no excuses.

    righteousness was promoted

now, that has been replaced by divas and religious folk who could care less about righteousness...."LAWD, just llok the otha way and ham mercy on me, when I screw up ( usually all the time, without guilt or remorse) oh yeah lawd and keep the blessings comin, even when I practice whats contrary to you..cause yous a God a love" sin ALWAYS bring sreproach

  • AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!!!

  • Classic...

  • Thank-you for these favorites from the Hawkins family, I still remember the words to most of those songs.

  • Thank you Jesus!!!!

  • let me take my blessing and run!!!

    THANK YOU!!

    used to see him live!!

    YES!!

  • Alot of folks down play the Hawkins because they can't get with their sound. One must be at a particular level of gospel musci apprecition to truly FEEL their music!

  • AAAAAAMMMMEEEENNNN! Well said! Well put!

  • Well, thankya! :-)

  • Really?! How can you not get the sound of perfection?!?! Their sound is the bomb!

  • It is, but folk sleep on still sleep on them after all these years. Partially because they don't do countless riffs and runs and acrobatics with their voice, which is okay. But alot of times the MESSAGE and VALUE of the song gets lost amidst all the vocal tricks.

  • Many times when ppl who fill their song with all those riffs and runs, it shows their inability to do much adlibbing, to fill the song with content and not acrobatics

  • U said it! It's fine if u can do vocal acrobatics, but just be ANOINTED about it! The Hawkins singers didn't do much of that, they just stood flat foot and SANG! Their songs were so indepth and wordy and meaningful. It penetrated your very soul!

  • deatha44 - I respect your statement. Yes, there are some people who are not serious about serving God. However, we ALL have practised what is contrary to God at some point in our lives. We all have a race to run, and that not without trials, mistakes, hangups, etc. Righteousness was promoted then, but let's be honest - much of the same things were going on back then. Some people just didn't get caught!

  • Yes - God is a God of love...I think sometimes the "religious" attitude is when we WANT to see people suffer for their sin, instead of being delivered. We'd rather see them get in trouble with God, and then we'll say, "See, I told you they weren't saved..." That way, we make ourselves look more spiritual than we are.

  • I think ppl should not live their lives precarious;ly and then claim to be followers of Christ. If you are indeed HIS, them live like hes your Father. The bible refers to those ppl as lukewarm. You are neither hot nor cold. I am tired of hearing ppl make excuses for hell raising folks who seem to believe that their CHristian, just because they pay tithes, sing in the choir and praise God. Hmph, even the devils believe and tremble..its a waste of time and space. Either consciously follow God or

  • true, but there is no excuse.......when I lived contrary, I knew it and I didnt make excuses for it. WHen I asked for forgivess, I understood that asking for forgiveness doesnt equal repentance. Back then, ppl were more fearful of "playing church". Now ppl are bold enuf to cuss you out, sleep with your spouse and then get in church and act like its okay, no remorse, no fear of judgement ( by GOd) and then 2 add insult to injury, expect blessings like God is a sugar Daddy. PPl feared God, then

  • I think riffing and running can get crazy at times, but it's just a trend for the time, as was back then, there were musical trends for that particular time.

  • riffing is pretty, and has its place ( very small) but there is NO CONTENT in it if the person doing the riffing cant get beyond that and put some real substance in the song...

  • Right, there is no excuse. Just because you understood then that asking for forgiveness didn't equal repentance, doesn't mean that others do now. As well, we shouldn't be surprised that people are more bold now. We are closer to the return of Christ, so yes, the devil is going to come harder. There are people consciously following God that have plenty of issues. We all do.

  • You and I are no better than the rest. However, at some point, we have to allow the Spirit of God to move upon us and be set free. If a person is not there yet, then we should help to strenghen them.

  • I know of people who DON"T do all the riffing and running and still don't have God's anointing when they sing. I find that most people who complain about this vocal strength are the people who CAN"T do it. A person should want to be anointed regardless as to whether they can do this or not.

  • @88keys33

who said anything about being better...stop being defensive when you know that there is no excuse for hypocrisy. You made a very valid point. WE must ALLOW God. But if we dont allow God to heal us, stop expecting me to pacify folks who know their living dirty without remorse

  • dont be so naive.

  • that is so true!

  • OMG idf you can't get ewitht he Hawkins sound and then something is wrong. That whole movement in those days, Andre Crouch, The Clark Sisters. They made music that is timeless. Music today fits its time period and probably will not have the abilty to transcend like the music of old. Technology wasn't needed to create there sound unlike artist of today. Just the anointing

  • Truth!! They were ahead of their time, today's folk are almost carbon copies of them, with LITTLE to NO anointing.

  • They just re-arranged this oldskool song that's all! Rev.Willie Morganfield wrote this song originally.

  • I say no anointing..just sound pretty and thats it.........

  • you are soo wrong and i am going to pray for you.. start by being positive ..change you user name ..this song is not only annointing than but today ..what a classic and glorifying God..

  • @paulalyn46
