I've always enoyed the fact that your vids are balanced. As humans we are sponges. We will internalize a struggle that we've never had and then lash out at an enemy that doesn't exist. Another thing that is constant with bashers (of all races and both sexs) is the high level of hypocrisy too.
Just thanks for keeping the perspectives clear and reinforcing the diversity in our minds in the community. We are indeed individuals not one collective a group with one collective thought.
Your experience is probably yours but it's an exception or a droplet among the whole African-american experience, and whatever you think it's through your community that you are judged, your mental selfishness amaze me. We are suffering from racism, white contempt, but we don't understand that when a police kill a black dude because he is black, when 49% of black kids can't get their GAD and we're 78% of the prison population is black that mean we have a problem, you , me and all the Blk ppl
LOL! Here you are again. Bitchlet mode no doubt. Do you know the whole AA experience??? No. neither do I. That is why I try to only speak for myself. Of course we are suffering from a whole bunch of shit. But we can do something about it. I have no time for me and mine to wallow in shit. That is boring and old. You can stay stuck in shit if you lke. It seems like it fits you. Have fun fool,
Excellent points! I'm definitely subscribing! I hope that folks (not just blacks) take heed to this message and make it a part of their everyday life.
Hell, I hope you don't mind, but I really want to email this!
I just learned about this in my management classes-groupthink. Folks have the tendency to conform to the ideas of others, even if they don't agree, because they have the internal 'need' to be a part of the group. They try to maintain harmony to remain a part of the 'in' group. I totally agree with you ASistah-great vid!
I hate to say it...and I sure someone else will say it too...but misery loves company..if people are miserable they want u to be miserable too..seeing that you are miserable too will validate their condition and allow them to become comfortable and content and not make an effort to make their situation better. Looking in the mirror is HARD. The sad reality is that people believe that being unhappy is normal. I work with 14 other black women and we get along just fine.
Again, you are fabulous. I can't seem to say this enough, right? In my personal opinion, the whole "my story is your story" attitude amongst some black folks comes out of this idea that we as black people own each other; that each of us is not an individual but part of some collective thought or action. I've always thought this to be completely RIDICULOUS. Anyway, thank you for yet another smart, thought-provoking post. More, please!
I did this often when I first arrived @ college, it took me a while to realize I had 2 be proud of my life and life experience. I refused to join the "Cult of Hood".
Dang! this bs was happening to me today..perfect timing...Girl.....So where is the event on next Sat....Y does the Black community have to be this way......urrrhhhhggggg
This is so true! Especially in the black community. Everyone in the black community did not grow up disenfranchised! It is so frustrating to have others superimpose their experiences on others...and then have to fight off their misconceptions! It is so tired!
This woman is the truff (truth). Many of these entertainers are the same way. They go along to get along without giving voice to their own experience. Making the "Black" experience one of only squalor and need. Well, I am here to tell all, that was not MY experience.
You know you are so on point with this! When I was young I literally would feel guilty because I didn't grow up in the projects, went to catholic school, grew up in the suburbs, went to a predominantly white high school, had white AND black friends, did NOT go down south to visit family, etc.. My step father was a member of the FOI and I grew up taught that white folks were the devil, but I didn't believe it. I had to realize that my reality had very little to do with other folks "reality".
My family is an interracial family and when people would talk to me about being able to trace their lineage back to the motherland and MY motherland was Ireland...I was pissed off! Where was my Africaness? Where were the slaves in my family? I felt and still do feel left out. But I know that I am African American. I never lived in the "hood", I NEVER dated a thug and I'm considered a traitor to my race. That is my reality, I have to live with that. But I love my black people...YES I DO!
Your "motherland was Ireland". I knew it! I always suspected you were significantly Irish, Swedish or German. Facial features DO NOT LIE.
Moving on, your latest testimonial is interesting coming from the same woman who said: I stopped dealing with black men cause I got tired of getting my ass kicked. When asked if they beat you because they were violent or because they were black, you got really foul. Being multiracial and not "growing up in the projects" must be very challenging!
I gave the side eye so long at that post that I look like I done had me a stroke up in here! I would be shaking my head too but my ass is paralyzed after that.
Hell, YouTube need to start offering medical coverage! I cain't take it no' mo!!!!!
OMG! so funny you make this video! I'm dealing with the same thing...my experience is not theirs, but they get upset when you tell them positive stuff about the black community..
