@88Domination i have only ever used homemade i just kept increasing the quality of the picks homemade can work just as good as purchased picks it all depends on how you like to pick and how much effort you put in to picking and crafting the pick.
@StarWallker1 i tried doing that but the knife i used was very low quality and the metal couldn't hold up but if you got a nice knife I'm sure it would be a good idea but costly
Youtube gives your place of residence as the UK, UK law states: United Kindom Theft Act 1968, "Sect 25. Going equipped for stealing, etc.
(1) A person shall be guilty of an offence if when not at his place of abode, he has with him any article for use in the course of or in connection with any burglary, theft or cheat."
Same as most countries, they're a prohibited item. Not illegal like nuclear warheads, more like guns where you need a license.
@FraggingBard As an employed locksmith one is legally allowed to own and carry. it would be illegal if i was to walk around with them. like a gun. if in my house used for recreational purpose there is nothing wrong with them. so only use them for recreational purpose. you can get in a lot of trouble if you are to carry them around.
Nah, UK, Aus, both have the same laws. They're classed as prohibited items, meaning you need a license, eg. Being a locksmith. However, even if you're a locksmith, if you're not on the job and aren't heading to/from work you can still get into trouble from the police. That's how annoyingly worded the law is in these lovely free countries. :P
Studying to be a locksmith, they basically told us illegal to own at all till we're employed, then only at work.
UK is a bit different to Aus, they can be owned inside a house without getting into trouble, in Aus owning them is two years jail. But most people like to carry them around, and that's just plain illegal unless a qualified and practicing locksmith in both countries.
I give it a 10,I liked it a lot,I was wondering do you have any old patterns that you don't want that you could send to me threw snail mail or my e mail
i worked at a car dealership and had a big problem loosing keys to office doors and filling cabinets so one day i made the paperclip picks. they worked but the next i left them in my car with the windows rolled up in mid summer long story short the paperclip picks in hot car are very very easy to bend out of shape and piss you off in a hurry
Use the spokes fróm a bicycle wheel, bang them flat with a hammer and shape them like you like, very strong and they dont bent so easy. One wheel will give you 100's of picks
hey why dont you just buy proffesional grade picks? jw? it would be alot easier but not as cheap but i know mine work way better than my homeade stuff.
@HITINGPARKEDCARS its not hard to make your own and it is much cheaper it costs me nothing to make my picks so how can you argue with that. my picks work very well plus i can make the pick to my own specs and if i break one its no big deal it will take my no time to make a new one. but the best thing is i can make them anyway i want. i can use other picks to make mine and i can try new pick designs at any time.
Hey nice video I used the large wiper blades they are a lot easier but you should try a cheap hacksaw blade you can due a lot more picks I have a dremal and made some great picks if you would like Ill send you some pictures
thanx man for the help, just started picking the otherday and im using bobby pins,,those wiper blade inserts i might give a try :D cheers mate..well presented video aswell.
yeah they are the best to make picks out of. i still use them. i went to the store and got myself a grinder for like $40 not very much. and i got all the inserts from a local source for no charge.
i still have my first lockpick I made which I used to pick a med security padlock. It was a rake shaped piece of metal wrapped in a kleenex then wrapped in tape.. very crude tool. took me about 3 hours to pick the lock because it was my first time lol

Nice vid and not sure if I just missed the answer or no answer has been posted yet, I have the same question as:
How hard was it to bend the bobby pins like that? And, somewhat relevant, were they the long hair pins, or the short ones?
