I crossed this bridge on Tuesday, June 10, 1997, only about two weeks after it was opened. It is the longest bridge over water that freezes in the world. I have also crossed the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway--on Friday, March 5, 1982.
It's the longest bridge in Canada, but not the world. The 24 mile Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana has quite a bit more length to it. Very nice video quality here though.
The Confederation Bridge joins the eastern Canadian provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, making travel throughout the Maritimes easy and convenient. The curved, 12.9 kilometre (8 mile) long bridge is the longest in the world crossing ice-covered water, and a decade after its construction, it endures as one of Canada’s top engineering achievements of the 20th century.
what are the stop light on the bridge for?

I've been across this bridge twice in 2004, but both times were at night so I didn't see much.
