The prophet encouraged such recitation because he himself said that one of the miracles of the Quran was it's ability to grab the hearts of those who did not understand arabic. Qira'at is a timeless art in the rememberance. I agree with your view on understanding, but do not ridicule good things. Be open and broad in your thinking
