You two are great. Love this old song. (I have to make my dog stay in the other room when I am singing, if not she just stares at me, eventually causing me to start laughing.)
@terrisonb I think this was our 2nd or 3rd try because of her dog... he likes to sing/howl along and we couldn't stop laughing... finally, she decided if she held him maybe he'd just shut up and listen...it worked!
Some people call it Travis, but it's not really the same... although I think its origins are similar. I see this variety of fingerpicking as a little more eastern... Travis emerging out of Western Ky... this one, or something like it, seems fairly common farther points east...I don't really know for sure, though. Do you Travis pick?
Garrisons are great to play, aren't they? I've looked at various German made guitars in music stores and loved them too. Nice guitars! Which video are you playing that Handbuilt in?
Thanks. Sorry, no tabs, and unfortunately my noting hand isn't visible in this video, but I just play it out of C, using only I, V (G or G7), and IV (F) chords, and the melody lines can be picked out of the basic chord patterns wihtout too much trouble... I'm pretty lazy, so this is the type of pickin' I love doing best... LOL... not too much work involved. Try it in C; you'll see the melody notes are right in there where your fingers can get 'em pretty easily.
I like what you've done on it. Great picking technique and guitar sounds good and even looks good with different wood contrast color (am I right if I think it's a Garrison with all birch construction ?). *****
Yes, you know your Canadian guitars!!! I love that Garrison... really, I like it even better than my Martin. The thing just rings out forever...Much less expensive than the Martin was, too. I also have a Seagull 12-string... another absolutely great Canadian-made that is a pleasure to play and not so expensive!
To be honnest, I'm a huge acoustic guitar fan, especially the sobre ones which sounds fair, as much as live acoustic performances like the ones you made. I'm planning, for my next guitar, to build it myself with a kit, maybe a small size one (OOO or parlor) which will sounds different from my other guitars. I'm interrested of everything around the acoustic guitar since I was.....33 years old, never too late it seems to be (I'm now 38 lol). Thanks. Keep follow that pure music way.
WOW... I hope you can document building the guitar on youtube!!! I would love to know how to do something like that some day. Have you seen the youtube about Violet Hensley, the fiddle maker??? Very cool. I'd love to make a fiddle, a banjo, a dulcimer, and a guitar... but probably won't ever do any... not sure I could. If I'm lucky, one day I'll talk my husband into trying some of that... he made a dulcimer once... we gave it away!
Very lovely.
Best wishes from Denmark

Crowned with stars... :)

PS: I've had a Garrison too. Model G25. Very nice to play with "her". But my favourite is my Handbuilt by a German
plucked string instrument maker.
