  • Geek rock at its best!

  • this was a great song!

  • I didn't realize I called him something......geez

  • absolutely classic rock, rockin' and sweet - bittersweet, actually - a lifelong favorite

  • actually this 1 hit wonder also wrote "The Rapper' and was a member of the Jaggerz

  • @bigjd62 and was a member of Wild Cherry

  • s climbing tiger

  • 1980 was A GREAT YEAR FOR ROCK AND ROLL!

What a great tune and I got to enjoy it when it was on the radio and new. Somehow, I feel blessed to have been a teenager in the 1980s and got to enjoy so many great tunes in the era that they were created.

  • AHHHH for the love of one hit wonders!!

  • @onoyoudidntdumass call him what you want nothing short of genious is what I call this person

  • Listen to all the hip hop synth fake cliche shit the kids listen to today..they are missing great tunes.

  • The More Older Music Gets The More Passion It Gets

  • That voice still gets me! Those high notes are awesome.

  • yinzers, unite!

  • I remember this song distinctly when it first came out, but never knew the artist or the song title. I just literally bumped into it tonight after listening randomly to songs of this time period. I can't say how profoundly happy I am listening to this again !!!

  • EXCELLENT!! What a fantastic song!

  • K-She 95 Saint Louis, jammed this tune over & over

  • Nerds CAN rock! What a relief! I'm a nerd too. Lol.

  • @avdreader1 Me too!!

  • What's going on? I didn't like this. Why is it my liked list?

  • great fuckin jam....totally underrated and forgotten song of the 80s era!!

  • @brh2282 Can't argue with that !!

  • awsome song they need to play it more on the radio!!!

  • No dude - not old - the tune/lyrics are just so missed in today's music - that is why stations still play this -- this is the beginning tune to my workout - but, it quickly found its way to my corvette, windows down, top down - looking over at my girlfriend and just having a massive shot of adrenaline of wanting her...

  • God I love this song. Especially the chorus and when the synthesizer comes in. Never knew the name of it till last summer. Listen to it pretty much every day, one of my all time favorite songs! <3

  • awesome song!!

  • Love this song! Reminds me of this on-again off-again romance I had in my 20's!

    Ill-fated love affair ;)

  • i could listen to this all day long... probably because my name is leah... ;)

  • Ive been looking for this song for like ten years!

  • I love the chorus.

  • Just what the Doc ordered.... thanks bro!

  • Such memories I have to this song.

  • Yay, my name's Leah too (: and this song is frickin' stellar!!

  • Regarding one hit wonders. It isn't important. If it's good it's good. Even if it wasn't a "hit" The album is the thing, not radio airplay.

  • I LOVE this song! It takes my breath away! wow! Loved it the first time heard it!

  • with my mix, I can't not hear the Go-Go's 'Head over Heels' next.

  • Although this was Mr Iris's biggest hit, he was'nt a one-hit wonder!!

  • love it

  • Do you guys not have a rock station in your area?? It's not a one hit wonder, Donnie Iris also had "Love is like a Rock"....make that two hit wonders.

  • @69OldsNut Don'r forget "The Rapper" with the Jaggerz.

  • Wow! This takes me back to some of the best days of my life. They don't make them like this anymore.

  • I was named after this song! Ahlea is my name. :)

  • @leahbear07 thats awesome, I almost named my Daughter Aliyah and Leah after this song myself, but we went with melody :)

  • @leahbear07 I was named after this song too!! My name is Leah, 1981 LOL... gee thanks mom!!

  • Umm, try the album, one whole Hell of a lot more than 'one hit' on there.

If you only judge by hits, you only get the lowest common denominator.

  • yes! great gem early 80's, i grew up on this shit..stations here in Florida still play it some, but most people don't know who it is, and the station never says "that was Donnie Iris doing "Ah Leah"...lol. but one of my faves def..i love the melodic keyboards/guitar and the songs ending from 3:02 or so on to the end... .I always turn that part up louder..lol...fucking awesome since 1982!!! i was there, i remember it :-D

  • @shanedangers holy wow to myself, i had NO idea if i typed 3:02 it turned blue so you can click it and start right from that second! youtubes great and so is this song..lol.

  • Always loved this song! It got quite a bit of air play on one station in Chicago when it came out. Then I married a Pittsburgher and our kids grew up listening to this great album! A lot of great music came out of western PA.

  • One of my favorites from 81 along with Sausalito Summernight by Diesel which were both not overplayed in those days and in these days on classic rock or oldies stations.

  • AH! LEAH LEAH LEAH AH LEAH WERE NEVER GONNA MAKE IT YA! AH LEAH HERE WE GO AGAIN! ive been listening to this song fer like 4 days solid lol such a fresh tune

  • Finally found this song!!! Love it!

  • This song was released in July, 1980, a year before I was born!

  • Why is it so hard to find Donnie Iris tunes? Finally I found it...right here on YouTube. And one in particular I'm looking is "My Girl."

  • you're welcome!

  • one hit wonder, are you kidding me? listen to "Agnes" or "I Can't Hear You"

  • HEY! THAT'S WHERE the underwear Cowboy Got the idea, From the cover of A Donnie Iris Album! and technically, He's A two hit wonder. Although it burned out fairly quick,... "Love is like A rock" got quite a bit of air time for about 2 years.

  • my first wife and I had just broken up when this song came out - so it feels like a theme song for my personal separation - rings true - a rockin' lament

  • funny seeing this album cover and realizing that I have a strat in that exact same color with a maple neck :p

  • I've been hearing this song at least twice a week for quite a while now. Don't mind it at all, lol.

  • would you please post "you're only dreaming" from this album?

  • Great tune from this band. Its' in the hizou!

  • Donnie played ALL the instruments and sang ALL of the vocals on the "Back on the Streets" album. He also mixed the album in his basement!! Truly a very gifted man. Rock on, Donnie!!

  • Bill Nye can rock!!!!!!!

  • it wouldn't be unknown if you lived near pittsburgh. it's been on heavy rotation here for thirty years now. makes sense though because he is from around here and went to slippery rock university. then again, you would be living in pittsburgh. kidding.

  • GEEK ROCK at its best!!!

  • At last! After five long years of searching, I have found this elusive track!! I heard it on the radio this afternoon, and the DJ finally mentioned the artist! This is definitely one of the long lost tracks of the decade.

  • This has got to be the single greatest popular song ever to be unknown to practically everyone, even at the time of its release (1980). Pop songwriting doesn't get any better than this, folks. Listen and be amazed.

  • "Love Is Like A Rock" was a hit?

    Sorry...I couldn't resist.

  • Sums up all the angst of helplessly loving the wrong person.

  • I love this song. He just does not look the part! He looks more like weird Al!

  • I've been looking for this song for so long! Thank god I finally found it.

  • My name is Leah!!!!! :D

  • This one song is ten million times better than everything else that is awesome in the entire world.

  • you got it!

  • WoW.This song brings back some Great Memories.Thx Doc

  • Mitchdjay.....He also put out,"Do You Compute?". However, Donnie Iris had the band Jaggerz from the early 70's. He was around for a long time. Many artist who were thought to be one hit wonders in the 80's had been around for a decade or more.

  • This is a BAD ASS TUNE!!! BUT Donnie reminds me of Eugene Levy on that movie Club Paradise.. LOL

  • It's thanks to this song that I got named 'Lea'. My mom heard this song when she was 15 and was deadset on naming her daughter Lea. Thank you Donnie Iris!

  • @DarkWingedAngel889

he reminds me of eugene levy all the time

  • That's my name. :)

  • we ain't learned our lesson yet!

  • This song was part of what shaped my life. Wish I had the chance to do it all over....and do it differently.

  • This song was done in 1-take from start to finish - awesome

  • @offdtop Ya, thats amazing.

  • Memories of serving in the Marine Corps E Club with the jukebox playing...."Ah Leah" Its now an all time favoriteof mine.

  • Youll never know what you'll find on youtube. I actually heard this song when I was in Arizona. I been trying to find it since, and now I found it!!!!

  • you are welcome my friend!

  • @DocRock- "TY 4 posting this. It brings back great memories for me of me and my ex spouse. And also of his replacement."

  • your welcome!

  • I grew up in Pittsburgh and heard this song many, many times at its peak. It brings back great memories. I have always wondered why Iris never made further than the east coast. I loved "the rapper" too, years earlier. A great band with strong rock roots! Thank you for posting!!!!

  • I absolutely love this song!

  • @PhillyGirl64

I do too!! I could listen to it over and over again!!

  • @PhillyGirl64 Glad I'm not the only one who appreciates good music; this is one of the best songs to date.

  • @PhillyGirl64 I'm also very happy ! Jeez..is there many left ?!

  • It's Donnie Iris of The Jaggerz!!!

  • Brings back some great memories:)

  • One of my favorite one hit wonders !!!

  • @mitchdjay One hit wonder? How old are you?

  • @mitchdjay donny is one of those rare double one-hit wonders. His band, The Jagerz, had a hit in 1970 with The Rapper.

  • @mitchdjay Actually he had another hit with Love is like a rock. LOL I guess he'd be a 2 hit wonder. Check out the song, it's a bit more raw and loud than Ah Leah.

  • @mitchdjay

Not a one hit wonder. How about Love Is Like A Rock?

  • @Berthagertrude "Do You Compute" from1983 actually received quite a bit of air play here in Detroit

  • @mitchdjay agreed bro! For some reason I always liked this song and I guess it's the only hit Donnie ever came out with. Lots of one hit wonders! Only takes one hit to make it big!

  • @mitchdjay Love Is Like A Rock was a hit for him too.

  • i love it so much

  • OMG thanks for posting!!!
