About the hoarders TV program, most have mental disturbances to some degree and in the more severe cases, family members who knew about the situation and did not report it have been cited and prosecuted in some cases because the people were a danger to themselves. The government does get invovled in cases like this, so, while it is a sad situation for all involved, the kindest thing to do is to report it to the mental health authorities so that they can get the help that they need.
