It's kinda stupid they say "If you want superior acceleration look to the SL63 and 65 AMG models"... I mean.. the SL600 is faster than the SL63 AMG. 0-100 that is. Rest I'm not sure of.

@AdrianC12345 oh please all fucking astons look the same boring look and the f430 great car but put the soft top and some jealous prick will rip it up with a knife, plus they are worth more then the SLs.
@vladster7272 No they most certainly don't. But if we're talking about what people can do to your car then ANYBODY could scratch it/ key it/ break a window/ let the air out of the tires. And anyways, it's not like if I'm going to get a stupid convertible. And an SL 65 AMG is only slightly less expensive than a V12 Vantage. But all Mercedes from 2000-2007 liike the same as well. And the Aston comes with something called class.
@AdrianC12345 I wasn't getting into the whole thing of what damage can be done to any car just the soft tops. As for looks the astons look the same since the 2000s yes i'm sure they have small changes but not a big one like the SL. As for class its got a powerful engine with a $100,000+ sticker tag like so many other cars, i'll take the benz they have more choices, if you really have the money might as well go for the AMG Series or the SLR.
@skizzle94 How can you compare a 2 seater small car to big sedans? It doesn't make sense. Plus there's the fact that BMW sedans are better than Mercedes sedans.
why ya'll complain about. the new mercedes got a evil look that looks great. mercedes has all the other futures that you cant find in any other car. yall just hatin because u cant have one. i have a mercedes right now but in the future it would be my pleasure to drive the new model of sl model. have u all seen the new sl65 amg black series. its just a beast and u cant compared with no other car. i love mercedes and i will never drive another type of car
some comments were made in regards to the older SL having the body stlye of the Mclarean SLR which is incorrect, in fact it is the SLK that resembles the SLR. The SLK is smaller then the SL, in fact it is not much bigger then a mazda m3. The SL is larger and more of a business mans sports car. the SL and the SLK are two different monsters filling different niches and both fine examples of Mercedes craftsmanship
you are all lashing your tongues, saying this an that negativity about this SL... i tell you this baby, Na - this monster don't smile for pictures.. if you don't get it ,it aint photogenic!....behold its awesomeness one on one and you will shut the fuck up!
looks very cheap and lacks the quality of the 2003. although the 03 sl500 i owned was a piece of shit as is with most mercedes cars. i enjoyed for the little time it offered me. it now sits in my drive way. the drop top cannot be opened any more, and the transmission is slipping.
I work on Mercedes Benz's all day, many with keyless go, never have I accidently shut the car off on accident when trying to go into gear. disappointing review .
I'm sorry but the 2003-2008 model design is way better than this crap. I am truly dissapointed in the new 2009 design. I am a proud owner of a SL and have several friends who own them. They ALL agree in regards to the 2003-2008 design being much more elegant. If I was to buy over I would upgrade to a 2008 AMG rather than getting a 2009 design model. Seriously it sucks
First off if you read my whole statement you would realize I was referring to the exterior design. And "Yes" the 2003-2008 SL Models are better in design however the 2009 SL engine is better because of the upgrades. If I were to make a repurchase I would buy the 2008 to keep the older design and shoot for the AMG for engine performance. I'm sorry to tell you this but if you ask fans of Mercedes-Benz which design is better the 2003-2008 or the new 2009 most of them will say the 2003-2008 design!
The car "WAS" beautiful, but i dont know?? The front headlights havent grown on me yet. I found the previous Sl a bit more luxurious and captivating. This car doesn't really yell out Mercedes, you have to turn your head twice to notice what it is. Over all the structure of the car was well made, its flared up to look sportier then the previous Sl. I think some people prefered the the previous Sl because of its uncanning looks imitating the Mclaren.
"If you like to get the most for your money" and are half way smart you will understand a Mercedes if very good value for money. Narrator is an idiot.
Yeah I'm going to disagree these are about the most expensive roadsters out there.
I think they're worth the money, but you pay a lot for it. Not really good value as they don't outperform/outclass the competition by a large margin.
Compared to a bentley, aston martin, or ferrari i geuss you can see the value but that's like comparing buckingham palace to the biltmore mansion. "Value" starts to lose definition when you're dealing with cars that ooze with excess.
Did he just say light steering? I am sorry put the biggest thing for me in a performance car is the steering feel. The steering ratio in the G35 is almost perfect for me.
It is a very nice car. However I would like to see a manual transmission as an option. I know not everybody wants to shift their own gears but Mercedes-Benz should at least give their customers the option. Still a good car though
im impressed the guy pronounced jaguar right by not pronouncing it jagwahr. but getting away from that i like the new outside look but the inside look is just the same as the old one really would have hoped for a newer inside but oh well its still a nice car and drives like one to maybe in a year or 2 it might get a updated dash but over all 8/10
The SL-Class is placed about $8,000 above the S-Class. I think they should be the same price. The S-Class offers five seats that adults can use. It also has one or standard features (ex: voice recognition). On the other hand the SL-Class is a hardtop convertible. But it only has two seats.
But it's Mercedes' top model and therefore the price should reflect that. It has always been desirable and doesn't depreciate like that S-class does either.
It's more of a premium car than the S-class too, despite the S-class' obvious 'advantages' over it.
I don't mean in terms of technology (The S-class is better by far) but in terms of appeal and cache the SL is ahead of the S-class. That's why Mercedes charges so much for it, it appeals to more people on a broader spectrum. Hence my summation of it being more of a 'premium' car.
thanks for explaining it to me.. if i was given $100,000, i'd probably take an s550 and put extra optional features in it (ex: night vision, massaging seats, etc.) but you're right about the sl550
I have a 2006 Mercedes-Benz SL500. I love it. 0 to 60 comes up in my SL in about 5.6 seconds. I think the new SL does about 5.3. But I won't be getting another car until about 2018, so let's see what new high-quality cars will be out by then.
im gonna put them on my car. you can order the parts and they should come with instrutions, just make sure you order the bolted-on versions cuz you can change it back to normal doors anytime. or you can take the parts to the dealers and have them put it on for you.
i got my vertical door kits for about 600.00 bucks
i have a clk 350. the price ranges from 600 to about 3,000.i got the 600 kit just for a experiment. for better quailty i prefer paying a bit more. my friend bought a kit for his acura TL for like 1,300 and they seem pretty soild.
I bought it used for about $83,000. It only had about 3,000 miles on it. (I assume the previous owner of it hated it, lol.) Even used, it smelled and drove new when I bought it back in 2006. I love it. It's a fun, upscale car. I won't be getting a new car for a LONG, LONG time. After spending $83,000, I'm going have to save up for my next car lol.
used for 36,000, got it with 12,000 miles. i bought it in late 2006. i really wanted an SL class but i couldn't afford it yet.you must have a really nice job
I work at Genentech as a Market Manager. My grandparents were very wealthy, and they gave some of their inheritance to me. Again, I won't be getting a new car for a LONG time. After spending over $80,000 on a car, you have to watch your budget a little more carefully.
I have not. I was actually also looking at the BMW M6, though the SL500's hardtop convertible really impressed me. The M6 is faster and more powerful, though another reason I went for the SL500 is that I assumed that it would have great reliability. I've never had to take it in for maintenance. Before the SL500, I had a 2001 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG, and that car performed beautifully as well. I never had to take that in either.
