He only gave them one cheeseburger, and that is nothing because in the 70's when this was filmed kids just like in the 50's and 60's were running and playing around all day nonstop, without gasp cell phones to know where they were, and they were fine, so only one cheeseburger was not going to do them anything at all, just the meal and the good taste. A man in the 50's could live in only hamburgers and cheeseburgers and other types occasionally and be very healthy, he was always active working.
the hamburger should have been blurred out because of the "nose" he had. Mc.Donald`s " bribing your children with cheeseburgers for their picture since the early 60's!"
Can't we see and old tv commercial or tv show today WITHOUT automatically thinking about bad health, pedophilia, safety, etc, etc, etc. It's sad how vulgar, frightened and wimpish we have become.
@63gstone You took the words right out of my mouth. It makes me sick to read comments on a perfectly innocent video and have some dimwit try to turn it into a racist or child molesting type of thing.
It was about 1972 when my town had Ronald McDonald fly in by Helicopter and be lowered into the McDonalds where people could have their picture taken with Ronald (for free mind you)...
Our radio station was covering it and me and a buddy were screwing around and we had some Kazoo's and we were humming the McDonalds song and the guy on the radio yells 'will you shut those god damn kids up'
His profanities made it over the air and it was great fun.... . no big deal.. but a fun memory..
the old comercials used to be about smiling, now it's ba ba ba ba ba i'm lov'n it! the first one of those had very wierd singing ducks, and it was retarted.
@RayRoark2009 I always thought Ronald Mcdonald was Micheal Jackson in disguised to see more little boys, whats up with the color, why is it red-ish looking?!
@shayminfan12345 The commercial print has become reddish due to age. Film stock has a tendency to lose actual color tones as it ages.
That's why the film studios create new prints for anniversary releases of classic films. Snow White's 1987 reissue is one example, The Ten Commandments 1972 reissue is another example.
I remember this was a promotional thing McDonalds did--after this commercial they would advertise where and when Ronald would be and go have a picture taken with him(and get a cheeseburger too!)
what a" fro" Old MacDonald had ! Sad the kids had to be forced to smile in order to be fed. No wonder us 40 somethings are so screwed up in the head !
@chrisman737 life-threatening maybe a bit of an overstatement. Its not health food, but you can eat three a day and still be under your daily allotted fat, calories, salt, etc.. Its just not something you want to make a habit of.
@chrisman737 Yeah, but back then children used to play alone in the streets without no cell phones and or other technology to track where they are and these children played all day so assuming no more that 1 cheeseburger only once in the whole day is not bad, and besides back then people only went a few scatterd times a year (not exceeding 5) to fast food restaurants, and people also worked more around the house.
what I would give to be ablr to go back and be 6 years old again... I remember 71 and 72 like it was yesterday, there was much more of a purity and innocence..things have really changed (for the worse)
I bet when this ad aired (back in 1972) it was extremely successful!
I'm sure a lot of housewives/mothers saw this commerical and immediately drove their kids to McDonalds..never fully realizing the subliminal effect that the size, shape, and constant twitching of Mayor McCheese's nose had on them? LOL!!
Amen. It's a wonder kids aren't afraid of clowns like they should be these days. Clowns in the 60's, 70's, and 80's were actually decent people who could elicit smiles and laughter. Now? I shudder to think.
i used to be scared to the burgler. lol everytime we'd go up to the drive through he'd be standding there by the window...he looked scary! But i was also scared of Santa lol.
The guy playing Ronald sounds VERY familiar to me. I don't know if it's because I heard his voice so much as a kid or because he's a famous guy now but he sounds really familiar.
these mcdonalds ads suck the best ones were the very first ones when ronald was half man, half food (search first mcdonalds commercial on youtube) and they had the best jingle EVER: "He's Ronald McDonald, the hamburger happy clown! I don't eat their food, but I know, even if a person ate there every day, or even twice a day, they wouldn't get fat. It takes more then that...
