@InternetAndDigital A new submission has been made by the developer that adapts certain features of the large blocks they plan to build. all these are superficial and aesthetic but do not change the issue, that if the buildings are built they will effectively destry the community in the lane as well as the environment and the conservation area. Jobs will be lost as well as the unique culture that surrounds Otago Lane , which has caused it to become so well known further afield.
@InternetAndDigital You can object to the plans wherever you are in the world, whether you're in the immediate areaor live in Australia or Japan. Your objections will count if you include your whole name and address, the date and the case number.
@InternetAndDigital Your objections do work. The reason why the development has not even come to the planning committee is because of the overwhelming public response in the form of letters. This has forced the council to act transparently and carefully and the developer to withdraw his applications. However, we need to match his persistence in order to save the lane.
@InternetAndDigital He will continue to try to debase our support by reapplying (and hence invalidating past objections), and so we must continue to keep up the support.
years since iv been down here need to go back soon later thise week they cant close the lane also is the beautiful white cat still wandering around that was a freindly wee cat
Glasgow Shitty Council need to be put up against a wall and shot for even thinking of considering the development plans. Same as when they threatened the Botanics, same as their threatening that garage near it, and all the other places in the only part of Glasgow that looks like an actual real city.
From Save our Lane - Dear all, the planning application has been resubmitted and objections have to be in by the 16th of June. I'll post info as I have it but for now, feel free to send a letter if you've got one ready, or drop it into one of the boxes at tchai ovna or roots and fruits!
A demonstration is being held this Saturday on Otago Lane in protest at the proposed development which threatens to destroy this conservation area forever.
If the flats go ahead, there will be 244 extra people in the lane, so we want to fill the lane with 244 extra people to show just how crowded this will be - but the more people who turn out, the better!
Please come along at 12 noon to show your support, with friends and banners to bring along.
The Lane could do with a little superficial work to clean it up a bit but this crap will totally destroy one of the best bits of Glasgow's cultural landscape.
Great video... And I totally agree - the halfhearted attempts by the developer to make this behemoth of a building envirnment/culture/wildlife friendly do very little to conceal the true agenda of such an ovesized project - squeezing in as many high paying residents per square foot as humanly possilbe - and in the process stripping away another vital piece of what makes the West End so unique. I will be signing the petition
Thanks for posting. I lived on the corner of Otago Street/Otago lane when I was a student in the early 1990s and was a fully subscribed member of the Republic of Otago together with friends across the road.
It is a great place and the size of the new buildings seems like overshadowing and darkening where I once lived.
Listen to them talking about 'improving' the area, and 'benefitting' people - this project has NOTHING to do with anything like that and ONLY To do with making a few people a LOT of money.
The proposed buildings are in no way in keeping with the surrounding area. This development proposal should be vigorously opposed. Community should be placed above profit for a change.
The deadline for objections by the public to plans to overdevelop on Otago Lane is nearing.
We need your support.
Please send an email or a letter to the DRS (the planning department of Glasgow city council). The email and address are:

It'll ruin the place if it goes ahead. As usual it's all about profiting not improvement.
