  • Is this from a movie?

  • Just WOW....."a Box of rain will see you through"......BEAUTIFUL.......

  • this song always makes me think of my sister. She is still with us-but somewhat lost. Drugs are NOT the answer ....and most of the time,... there is nothing you can do for certain people. Just love 'em and keep hopin' for something better... for them. Such a beautiful song.Always.

  • such a great song. i love hearing the sories behind the songs especially ones like this

  • I cry everytime I hear this

  • 2:18 is so fuckin cool

  • just got goose bumps when he was singing without music on the bus

  • At 2:10 I just wanna give Phil a hug!

  • Love will see you thru.........

  • @royalnaz1

congrats, you sound like a real cool deadhead

  • @royalnaz1 What is the point of putting such a negative spin on such an honest, heartfelt moment? Also, you do not strike people as very open-minded when you use the term "gay" as an insult.

  • @royalnaz1 ~~ Dude, that's pretty shallow, ~ when the truth is, ... that it's a very deep song.

  • I put a copy of this song in my grandmothers casket when shepassed away. this song is definetly the most personal of all dead tunes. I love you Gram miss you everyday.

  • Maybe you're tired and broken, Your tongue is twisted with with words half spoken and thoughts unclear. What do you want me to do to do for you to see you through? A box of rain will ease the pain and love will see you through. Thank you, Phil. You sang what my heart felt but I could not say when I too waited for my mother to die.

  • Wow that is so cool. Great video. All these years later Phil still gets choked up thinking about it... It is definitely my favorite studio recording by the Dead. I would love to have heard it live back when Phil could still sing. You forget what a great voice he once had. Weir mentions it in one of the books, that Phil just blew his voice out and it never really came back.

  • I remember reading about this in Phil Lesh's book, and he said in a short span they lost Phil's father, Jerry's mother and both of Bob's parents.

  • @TheJohnnyCotts Plus Mickey left for a few years, as he was distraught about his father stealing thousands of dollars from the band, and Pigpen was beginning to show signs of the illness that would take his life a couple of years later.

  • Wonder story. I had the same feelings as each of my parents were suffering with cancer.

  • this song was lovingly played acoustically by a guy at a good friends funeral. very touching

  • I also relate this song to my parents' deaths, and it actually helps me grieve. An amazing song. Sometimes I just need to let it all out; that's when I play Box of Rain and purge my heart.

  • This is my favorite Dead song. Great!

  • Yeah, What documentary is this from ? or movie ??

  • touching

  • I always thought more of the music than the words. Hunter's nothing but the best, but now that I hear Phil's motivation, I can better grasp my initial thoughts.

  • Wow....how fitting, also, that this was that last song the dead ever played....almost as if it were being sung to Jerry....

  • A beautiful song that obviously moves Phil. Great job.

  • the dvd that this is off of is called "an anthem to beauty" I found it at my local library

  • this is from a documentary about the recording of american beauty. done when the band remastered all the old warnewr bros albums

  • Just curious . . . when did this interview take place? Thanks for posting it.

  • Having just left my terminally ill father, I listened intently to the words of a song I had listened to since 1976 became as emotional as I had ever been in my life before. Without commercial enhancement, that this guy was singing about the death of his Father. I have sat on this for a while, but I am going to put this out there for the first time and I am sorry for the longevity of this but hope all appreciate the brevity of the sincerity.

  • @timmy12430 Right on man....that's what music is supposed to do...touch your SOUL...it should make you emotional man...no harm.....the most beautiful thing a human can do is be 100% honest with their emotions and just let them flo.....

  • Fünf Sterne!

    Gruß

  • wow that was cool. has always been my favorite dead song. thank you

  • your welcome, its always great to please people
