There is no such thing as toy shelties.!!!! Maybe you bred two runts or two tiny shelties and got more little ones but not a breed or type of it's own... they are only small shelties. and these puppies don't look to be any smaller than puppies we have at that age.
There is no such recognized breed as a "toy sheltie." Shelties according to AKC and CKC (Canadan Kennel Club) standards are between 13 and 16 inches tall at the shoulder. Anything more or less is considered a fault and such individuals would be excused from the conformation ring.
does the AKC recognize this breed? We have 4 Shetland Sheep Dogs,One of our Sheltie's is 60 pounds, one is 30 pounds, one is 18 pounds and the smallest one we have is about 10 pounds. We have not ever seen or heard of a toy Sheltie. What breed were the parents? I mean what did the breeders cross to get a toy sheltie? Just wondering. Cute puppy.
@MedicRNsWife They didn't cross anything. Sometimes the runt of one litter gets bred to another runt of a dif. litter to get a toy, or sometimes they are small naturally. The sheltie you have that is 60 pounds is probably a Collie? Because the Shelties are supposed to be within 15-25 pounds and 13 inches to 16 inches. I think shelties are soo pretty! You are lucky to have 4.
They are adorable! I didn't know there was a Toy Sheltie Club. I went to your website and I see that you are a very serious and responsible breeder who wants only the best for her dogs. I think that is great. I wish more breeders were as responsible and caring as you are.
