Here's the questions I need answered. Bush Sr. asked on the AIR the same thing Obama asked in the original lesson plan. What's the difference? Putting it on a lesson plan is worst? Given that Team Obama has historically targeted and cultivated the youth, their not initially stating what the theme was going to be, and then having a lesson plan suggesting teachers require their students write letters on how the could "help the President," made it a big deal. Poorly rolled out. Too bad, some kids missed out on what could be universally be described as a good speech. If it was the original one.

My real issue wasn't so much that he was addressing the kids. It was the fact that he was suggesting to teachers to 'teach' them so much each day about him and making them familiar with parts of his book.

I don't really care what he tells them, he has no authority to force kids to watch it. And its a bit awkward for such a blatant liar to tell kids to be honest, work hard, and blah blah blah. And, in fact, this is just a show of the authority the federal government has over schools in the country. A large chunk of funding comes from the government, so this is really just another display that the government controls your lives, and your childrens lives.

Having him encourage them to stay in school might not affect every kid in the country but if he can convince just a few kids to stay in school in each school than he has had complete success. noone complained when President Bush used a school to talk about education and his No Child Left Behind Policy. Even when he said he won't even talk about policy they are taking their kids away. People still can't acknowledge that a black man is president ( Fuck that half and half shit because even if your 5 percent black its still black.) and they probably don't want to expose this to kids. Too Bad because if you read the speech everything he's talking about in the U.S. in education is true.

No you are not forced to watch it he's giving the option to school districts and they choose whether to watch it or not. Secondly do you know our graduation rate of high school in this country? Not good especially if you add all 4 years of high school in account. Plus our test scores aren't as good as other first world countries. Only thing we're better at in education now is college. And to think America pioneered public schooling. Also your comment doesn't make a damn sense.

Actually, I live in another country at the moment, Singapore to be exact, and let me tell you, American schools are better. And yeah, College is the best in the world, that's why people come to the US for college, idiot. And the only reason we have a choice to watch it or not (only select school districts have this option by the way) is because people complained. The ASSIGNMENTS werent created by Obama or the white house...they were created by TEACHERS.
And the only thing changed in the speech was "What can you do to help the president reach his goal of having the highest % of graduates" and changed to having them write about their own goals.

Bush was faced with issues that required him to break his promise. Obama on the other hand made his promise while planning to break it.
