Contraction inside horse hoof

The effect of contraction is no matter how you wan´t to put it - painfull - will squeeze the navicular bone - will squeeze/crush the "living" tissues betweene hoofcapsule and navicular bone due to the pressure from the combined forces of the sole and hoofcapsule - will change the charateristics of the gait - will shorten the lifespand of the horse - period!

@naturhov - when you take testers to a contracted hoof, does it react more than the regular hoof? i think you'll find that the reason there is so much soft tissue within a capsule is for that very reason- to accommodate dynamic changes in a capsule. hey- thanks for the video, very interesting, just not accurately representative. I know: I dissected and loaded distal limbs every day for five years.

you know, i'm open to comment on this, but i must make you aware that hooves contract in reaction to a lack of force displacing the matter- most often because there is pain in the leg or hoof. A lot of times when the pain is within the capsule it is due to remodelling of one or more of the bones within.

So the hoof is not "crushing" the tissues (as is the case in the vise) as much as it is simply atrophying due to lack of proper loading.

@madagascar7100 What you're saying makes a lot of sense. The first thing I thought when I came to this video was, what is crushing a hoof to cause contraction? So the idea of atrophy/lack of use is a great explanation for why I hear of this condition so much in stalled horses, thank you!

I don't know why naturhov is reacting so abrasively to your constructive comment - This video's purpose I'm assuming is to shed some light on a terrible condition, which is what you just did as well.
