@TheCZuley I know it's forever since you asked, but in case you haven't heard, this was basically a Tech demo for a Physics Processor called Ageia PhysX PPU, however nVidia bought Ageia and discontinued the PPU idea, and instead had the Physx being calculated on their GPU's, which is fine, but it also means no developer will make games like this because it will only work on nVidia graphics cards, so yeah it's all a damn shame because this had potential!

I am not a proffessional game designer, but i have made a couple of games, and i want to know if i would get in trouble for creating my own fan-made CellFactor game...would they like sue me?But I dont intend to use any special graphics cards, i want my game to be able to run on any decent PC.

@4footalien I think it would be a bad idea to call it Cellfactor since that name has been trademarked, you could send a request to Ubisoft, but imo you should call it something that isn't trademarked, but still base it on the same idea, I would check out Bulletphysics homepage if you're planning on doing this, and if you have the skills, since they have Physics that runs on OpenCL, which makes it possible to run physics on the GPU on all cards.

in your (console) version they removed almost all physix. All good things you got now are the characters and the weapons, nothing more.If you want This cellfactor you can download for free from a torrent, but be sure to have the (2 i think) ageia physix cards requiered.

If you want my personal opinion about this game,i tell you that i cant find anithing better.....crysis,fear2,killzo­ne2,ut3,codmw2 cant be compared to CR at gameplay level.

Object collision? Bah, child's play. It is the other affects the PPU brings that are interesting.

I want to see the PPU applied in a RPG such as Oblivion.

Dynamic cloth, ridged rag doll, procedural object damage, true interactive liquids, volumetric smoke/dust partials.

i have a gainward 7600gt, 2gb ddr2 ram, 3800+ amd athlon am2, and a 570i mainboard chip and it doesn´t have any lags only when i shot the clothes than are the fps veryvery slow and i say very but when some explosions from grenades it doesn´t lag

A physx card is the biggest money-making scheme ever made, all they actually do is dedicate themselves to the physics processing because its a very cpu and gpu slurping task, the physics themselves are acually written into the game and providing you have a powerful enough computer you can see this physics in games with no problem at all. Its just a money making scheme. DON'T be FOOLED!

I have a core 2 duo, 1900xt and 2gb ddr2 ram, and the game laggs like a bitch with a exploxion, I don't see how a company will spend millions of dollars if they and other game companies had faith in it. Just wait till the price drops to the 100 category, it will defenetly be worth it seeing as what it brings to the table, hopefully it won't be like a video card and gets updated every couple of months with a new bette rone.

Well no, because without dedicated hardware, listen to one of the devs behind Cell Factor:

"Stuff like cloth and fluids run really slow in software. Some of the destructible environment stuff is unstable without a lot of solver iterations. There are a lot of breakable joints and in order for them not to vibrate and fall apart you have a very high accuracy simulation which is expensive to simulate and there just isn't the level of accuracy to simulate it in software."

Yea, this IS the wave of the future. I mean, along the logic Ewkerr is saying, why do we need a Video card? I am sure a quad core can do very nice software rendering.

I saw the voodoo when it came out and I knew it was the wave of the future. Now, weither this chip will become a "second core" on a processor is the real question.

I like the idea and am inclined to agree, but they are just overpriced and still undersupported. Physics processors are off to a shaky start. It might be another year or two as support builds before they can become mainstream.

Cell factor runs nicely on my e6600@ 3.4ghz and a 8800gts, nvidia 9 series should have ageia licences to put a phyx chip of their card. A sperate physics card is a waste of a pci slot, lol

Tell me, what part of strapping a affects physics processor to a effects graphics processor makes sense to you? What aren't they big and power hungry enough as it is? While were at it why not strap a general purpose CPU to it as well, make people have to pay 5 times more than normal for a jack of all trades piece of crap when all they wanted was a graphics card.
