There was a time my young friend when Compact Discs did not exist and these musical recordings were pressed into vinyl discs, much larger than your CD and also carried the term records. These records made it capable for DJ's to scratch.. (scratching the record). If left your record in the hot sun or applied heat to it, the melting record would look like melting wax...hence the term wax.
