I have seen very fast hondas supras ETC but my question to you is, when was the last time you have seen one push 640 RWHP/FWHP all naturally aspirated besides maybe a monster of a mustang which probably has a BBF anyways? every 300zx honda supra I have seen needs to utilize a turbo ETC

@BimmerM5e39 Google the rear end ratio for a fox body. You'll find that they're 2.73, I bought mine used and had 3.08's. 94 Z28 either had 2.73's or 3.23's. So if both of these had stock gear ratios, then they've either got the same gear ratio, or if they both had the lowest gearing offered, the Camaro would have lower gearing. Making quicker acceleration. So, I'm not sure what you're trying to get at with your comment.
I searched all the gear ratios for a z28. The lowest gearing a fox body got factory was 3.27. So, what is it you are trying to say with your "I swear mustang owners would shit their pants if camaro owners had the same axle gear ratio."?

As far as comparos between 3rd gen F-Bodies and Fox Chassis Mustangs, the Mustangs were literally leaps and bounds ahead of the 3rd Gen. They literally crushed them in every role, with the sole exception of the Mustang having a higher seating position.
Also, yes, I built engines for years for a notorious speed shop out of Southern California, synonymous with success in Sand Drags and high dollar sand rails. The point is, your comment is blatantly wrong. Long before Ford started marketing the 302c.i. engine as a "5.0", Chevy did with their 302 back in the 60's. Furthermore, the 4.9 is a lot closer to being a "5.0" than a LS1 is to being a "5.7", yet you sit here and persist on being an ignorant liar.
3rd Gen Camaros were slower than the 79-93 Fox Chassis. The 305 was a notorious dog. It made a whopping 215-220hp, and was expected to push a 3400+ pound car, atypically, with a slushbox. The 350 in the IROC made 235hp, but was only available in automatic, and IROCs were also 3400+lb's, typically heavier being the fully loaded Camaro. The 305 was also reverse cooled and known for popping head gaskets. The Ford made 225hp/300ft lbs and weighed 3000(lx) to 3200lb's (loaded GT).
@GR40GT yeah chevy's 5.0's were slow. their flagship was the 5.7. i've seen irocs go against fox bodys. both stock. that's why I'm saying chevy is quicker. the fox got the jump though.

The 5.7 was still somewhat of a dog due to the autos sluggish shifts and excess weight. A 5.0 coupe would still perform better in every metric regardless of Gt or LX trim, the only caveat being vert 5.0's. Vert 5.0's were slow because the chassis is terribly floppy and combined with the 4-link rear end, they would drive themselves all over the road ("float") when trying to launch. A 5-speed 350 3rd Gen would have been miles better than its Auto counterpart, but that just didn't happen

@ERIKx466 LS1's are not 5.7's. They are farther from being a 5.7 than a 302 is from a 5.0. We have been through this. LT1's were ok and the step up the Maro needed. Camaros are, in all trim levels, over 200lbs heavier than any and all Fox Chassis combinations from 79-93. The midrange torque helps carry them out. Do some browsing for 4th gen and 3rd gen fbod weight. You will discover your figures are far off. They're rather portly, especially compared to a compact fox.

The easiest way to determine actual displacement via liters is to place a decimal inbetween the first and second digits of the engines overall cubic centimeters. You are correct in the disparity but the numbers you are fumbling are inconsequential. My reference was comparing the disparity between the "real 5.7" you are referring to (5.73 350) and the LS1.
@ERIKx466 Also, you will not see the insane performance gains per component that you will see with a 5.0, when compared to a LS1 or LT1. The only reason the 5.0 falls on its face up top is because of extremely small runner size, and diminutive valves. This is great for intake velocity and throttle response at lower rpm's, but chokes the engine above 5500. A simple TFS top end swap nets 75hp on average, once the E7TE's are junked.
@GR40GT I'm not saying the car can't be modded to surpass such disadvantages. Any car can be modded. But after modding is done it's not a fair comparison anymore being that the car is, well modded. Not using that as an excuse but just something to think about.. the guy/chick with the deeper pockets will ultimately come out on top. That's why, and for obvious reasons, comparisons are done stock or mod for mod- if you want it to be fair that is.
@ERIKx466 If you buy a car to keep it stock and brag you are the quickest in town, then you are pretty much a massive waste of life. The same pompousness will get you smoked out on the streets if you are say, a Ferrari owner. Therefore the "moddability" of a car certainly is a massive question, and deep pockets are not always the answer. Displacement IS key and this is why most imports don't hold any world records on that front. The 5.0 is probably the de facto platform for modification
@ERIKx466 The entire platform is surprisingly simple to work on (More so than a 4th Gen F-body, believe me, I know) and gains are massive because the engine is choked up from the factory in way the Camaro isn't. Once these factors are understood, you gain an understanding of cars as a whole, and stop using terms like "well then they're modded". Did you know the world 8" drag radial record is held by a fox? Are you aware of how many 8 second street foxes there are? They're "easy" to get there.

@ERIKx466 Dollar for dollar and instance for instance, you will see many more fast F-bodies and Fox chassis than 8 second imports. The lack of displacement in most imports essentially always leads to a rubber powerband. The shop I worked for built EJ scoobies for sand drag applications, with our top engine pushing just north of 800hp @ 49psi on VP. That was a EJ25 with a custom Garrett hairdryer, and frankly, without the sand to cushion it, it would have blown itself apart repeatedly.

@ftsk420 Also, swapping the Vette based LT1 into the Camaros was a great kick-off point for Fbodies that gave them a long run in the spotlight before being ousted by more competent Stangs (i.e. Simply more well rounded and publically accepted). The LS1 being dropped in changed the game again as 12.7's became a reality with nothing more than slicks and a competent driver. The Fox's appeal to me has always been its severe ease of modification. Barring the heater core of course. ;)
Every major car manufacturer lists their engines rounded up to the nearest full or partial liter. LS1's are not a true 5.7 either, but I'm sure this fact eluded you somewhere between your ass and the empty void parked between your ears. The 5.0 was ripping up Corvettes in '87, nevermind F-bodies. 4th Gen F-Bodies were a wedged shaped Guido joke in action, although I feel they are still a great platform to build a drag platform off of.

While the Maro is more meaty in the midrange (which is to be expected with the displacement gap and disparity between builds) the Mustang is flat out faster on top. No power adders required.

I have seen very fast hondas supras ETC but my question to you is, when was the last time you have seen one push 640 RWHP/FWHP all naturally aspirated besides maybe a monster of a mustang which probably has a BBF anyways? every 300zx honda supra I have seen needs to utilize a turbo ETC

@BimmerM5e39 Google the rear end ratio for a fox body. You'll find that they're 2.73, I bought mine used and had 3.08's. 94 Z28 either had 2.73's or 3.23's. So if both of these had stock gear ratios, then they've either got the same gear ratio, or if they both had the lowest gearing offered, the Camaro would have lower gearing. Making quicker acceleration. So, I'm not sure what you're trying to get at with your comment.

As far as comparos between 3rd gen F-Bodies and Fox Chassis Mustangs, the Mustangs were literally leaps and bounds ahead of the 3rd Gen. They literally crushed them in every role, with the sole exception of the Mustang having a higher seating position.

3rd Gen Camaros were slower than the 79-93 Fox Chassis. The 305 was a notorious dog. It made a whopping 215-220hp, and was expected to push a 3400+ pound car, atypically, with a slushbox. The 350 in the IROC made 235hp, but was only available in automatic, and IROCs were also 3400+lb's, typically heavier being the fully loaded Camaro. The 305 was also reverse cooled and known for popping head gaskets. The Ford made 225hp/300ft lbs and weighed 3000(lx) to 3200lb's (loaded GT).

The 5.7 was still somewhat of a dog due to the autos sluggish shifts and excess weight. A 5.0 coupe would still perform better in every metric regardless of Gt or LX trim, the only caveat being vert 5.0's. Vert 5.0's were slow because the chassis is terribly floppy and combined with the 4-link rear end, they would drive themselves all over the road ("float") when trying to launch. A 5-speed 350 3rd Gen would have been miles better than its Auto counterpart, but that just didn't happen

@ERIKx466 LS1's are not 5.7's. They are farther from being a 5.7 than a 302 is from a 5.0. We have been through this. LT1's were ok and the step up the Maro needed. Camaros are, in all trim levels, over 200lbs heavier than any and all Fox Chassis combinations from 79-93. The midrange torque helps carry them out. Do some browsing for 4th gen and 3rd gen fbod weight. You will discover your figures are far off. They're rather portly, especially compared to a compact fox.

The easiest way to determine actual displacement via liters is to place a decimal inbetween the first and second digits of the engines overall cubic centimeters. You are correct in the disparity but the numbers you are fumbling are inconsequential. My reference was comparing the disparity between the "real 5.7" you are referring to (5.73 350) and the LS1.

@ERIKx466 Also, you will not see the insane performance gains per component that you will see with a 5.0, when compared to a LS1 or LT1. The only reason the 5.0 falls on its face up top is because of extremely small runner size, and diminutive valves. This is great for intake velocity and throttle response at lower rpm's, but chokes the engine above 5500. A simple TFS top end swap nets 75hp on average, once the E7TE's are junked.

Not using that as an excuse but just something to think about.. the guy/chick with the deeper pockets will ultimately come out on top. The same pompousness will get you smoked out on the streets if you are say, a Ferrari owner. Therefore the "moddability" of a car certainly is a massive question, and deep pockets are not always the answer. Displacement IS key and this is why most imports don't hold any world records on that front. The 5.0 is probably the de facto platform for modification

Once these factors are understood, you gain an understanding of cars as a whole, and stop using terms like "well then they're modded". Did you know the world 8" drag radial record is held by a fox? Are you aware of how many 8 second street foxes there are? They're "easy" to get there.

@ERIKx466 Dollar for dollar and instance for instance, you will see many more fast F-bodies and Fox chassis than 8 second imports. The lack of displacement in most imports essentially always leads to a rubber powerband. The shop I worked for built EJ scoobies for sand drag applications, with our top engine pushing just north of 800hp @ 49psi on VP. That was a EJ25 with a custom Garrett hairdryer, and frankly, without the sand to cushion it, it would have blown itself apart repeatedly.

Example, you have a 500hp primered fbody w/dents and rough edges and a 500hp 2011 civic si pushing the same. What will you take? I'll take the fbody. @ftsk420 Also, swapping the Vette based LT1 into the Camaros was a great kick-off point for Fbodies that gave them a long run in the spotlight before being ousted by more competent Stangs (i.e. Simply more well rounded and publically accepted). The LS1 being dropped in changed the game again as 12.7's became a reality with nothing more than slicks and a competent driver. The Fox's appeal to me has always been its severe ease of modification. Barring the heater core of course. ;)

LS1's are not a true 5.7 either, but I'm sure this fact eluded you somewhere between your ass and the empty void parked between your ears. The 5.0 was ripping up Corvettes in '87, nevermind F-bodies. 4th Gen F-Bodies were a wedged shaped Guido joke in action, although I feel they are still a great platform to build a drag platform off of.

ERIK, learn to read. I said the LS1 is not a 5.7. It is in fact 346ci. Its bore and stroke are 3.898x3.622 which equals out to 345.789ci or 345ci rounded to 346. As far as being a "Ford fan", no dumbshit. There is a 4th Gen Camaro in the garage packing a 4 bolt 383 with TFS heads and a big Lunati cam that says otherwise. I also have a 90 GT with a built 306 parked right next to it. While the Maro is more meaty in the midrange (which is to be expected with the displacement gap and disparity between builds) the Mustang is flat out faster on top. No power adders required.

I like both cars...chevy and ford. I have had a 91 and 96 z28 and have had a 95 gt and a 01GT. I will say that my 01 gt was way easier to work on then my 96z. One thing that sucks about the camaros are there rear ends.
