It is the typical design of Blohm and Voss with heavy armor. These ships were rather wet in heavy seas, therefore they received the so- called atlantic bow. When those ships went full speed it was an impressive sight!

their surface fleet wasn't successful because the captians were crazy nazis. if they were regular german officers it would have been differnt. instead of worrying about disapointing hitler they would have rammed the entire german fleet up the allies ass and out the other side. the allies had 11 battleships in the atlantic. germans would have sunk them all within a month. then surround england and blow it off the face of the earth. then russia would have been screwed for good. no supplies.

It wasn't the Captains it was the high brass look at Ernst Lindemann he was Bismarck's captain and he wasn't a Nazi. But Luetjens trying not to disgrace his name by returning for munitions and fuel early got himself,Lindemann and 2200 other men killed.

Thats because the Navy was told war wouldnt be fought tell 1945, hence why so many ships where so new and still being built when war broke out.Its easier to build an Army and airforce in a short amount of time, but a Navy no.

Think of what Germany could have done in its Unterseebootwaffe or undersea warfare department with the steel saved from these huge battleships...now there would be a HUGE problem for the allies to deal with.

but in 1941 the british had 17 battleships so if you just pit the battleship forces against each other germany would have a serious problem. however in this case you could ambush them with submarines but such a fleet would have a stupendous amount of escorts.

I think what 1977clandestino met is that the IJN would have beat the German navy by Numbers. IJN was a big Navy the German navy however was very small.

German Navy is until now small^^ We are not allowed until today to build a new navy. Search "Sachsen Schiff". Its the modernst navy ship in the world. Its able to defence against 2000 Misiles at the same moment. But you have right, without a bigger fleet see is unintresting^^

I like the use of DAS BOAT music with the screen play. Well done. On a side these are beautiful ships, yet when it comes to power and controlling the sea the subs, have got it hads down. Although as we have seen through history the carrier had a powerful role in sea control.

Pocket Battleships was useless. But Bismark (As any A-Class Battleship;USS_Missoury,IJNS_Y­amato,Littorio(ITL)) was awesome if Germans had atleast 4 of them the beginning of war at sea would be defferent. DNK-BISMARK(A-Class Battleship-Reider) 55300BRT,160000Hp,8x15"(381mm)­range 65-70km by radar.

I agree that the pocket battleships were useless,but only because they went out by themselves looking for trouble, if they would of been part of a convoy,they would of been more effective, german navy did the same thing to the bismark, send it out alone to face the british navy that was bigger and had more experience,also the german navy had no aircraft carrier,big mistake.I think even 5 bismarks in the end would of been destroyed by the aircraft from carriers.

Scharnhorst put up a fight before sinking like Bismarck. It is sad how the Gneisenau ended her days.
