descent 3 is the game ive played online more in all my life... more than halo reach and age of empires 2. god i wasted so many hours and money with the ISDN. i hope for descent 4
@Lenangreal Yeah, I'm having hardcore nostalgia, too. Age of empires 2 was an AMAZING game. both my sister and I were addicted to both descents 1 and 2, as well as AOE II. Man, amazing times.
I have a challenge for you all.. Find the Original cut of the Descent Intro that was posted on one of the Animator's pages. the music in it was surreal, completely different but that one almost made me cry!, it was only in a flash back in 2004 or some such, and have since lost the link, but omg if you find it... i love you <3
@muddbabesari I am only aware of the uncut ending of D3. That version has an alien flying past the Expediator at the end. The person you seek might be Daniel McMillan. His website is cosmicorigins com. He also has a YouTube channel under the name Cosmicorigins
@muddbabesari I was obsessed with the song I looked all around the net for almost a month when I got the game in 04. I had it. It was split into 3 MP3s I found it right after the game came out, I'm searching my very old backup CDs haven't found them yet :(
Wow. Like some of the other posters, the music still gives me chills after all these years. Hauntingly beautiful. Whomever wrote the score for this game knows their stuff.
@TigerRaptorFX Thank you so much. I have been looking for this intro and music FOREVER ... now I have it ... and better yet, I bought the game at gog.com and all the memories are flooding back ... AWESOME!!!
Cool continuation from Descent 2 ... I still remember when Parallax hired some of the most talented level Descent 2 authors to work on Descent 3 missions. Too bad they changed the gameplay formula so much. Btw, doesn't the pilot's face resemble the one of Volition's boss somewhat (Volition had sprung off Parallax years ago)?
@Cypher501 Holy crap you're right!! I never thought of that but I wish I can get into detail without spoiling it here. Maybe you can upload a video based on that concept in the future...
When I first watched this intro, and saw the ship being dropped, I was admittedly teary eyed. I had been with that ship through thick and thin... as it burnt up, I saluted it. It was the best game comrade I ever had.
how the fuck did he breathe? wouldnt that be like thousands of pounds of pressure put on his body if the vacume came in contact with him? they should have animated dozens of hoses putting oxygen in the air at least
descent 3 was a game MUCH ahead of its time. I don't think any computer systems existed that could run this game on its full graphics settings till maybe 2003?
It was MOST definitely sad watching the Pyro-GX burn up. I just watched a montage of "exiting the mine" clips followed by D2-Level 24's big escape, and then this. After all that little ship has been through since D1... It's like watching your FAVORITE car you've had for years enter the crusher after it's served its time. *sigh*... I think the D3 ending will cheer me up!
Best intro ever, inspired my tribute videos, I hope whoever made this intro is still making them and successful. Played 1 and 2 and this was a big emotional thing and you didn't even know the pilot well. Gave attachment well for someone you barley knew in the games! Still is the best I've seen with the flashbacks and music.
@achaz Well everything depends on that Fallout Online... If it succeeds, Interplay could begin developing Descent 4...They would have gone bankrupt already if they hadnt sold all other rights of Fallout to Bethesda, but if this Fallout MMO fails/flops, then it's all over for Interplay and I doubt any other studio would be interested continuing Descent....so hopefully Interplay will rise again with Fallout MMO
Im now for the first time playing D3,but D1 was among the first games I've ever played
This intro,...gave me chills when i saw it the first time when it first came out, and it still does. I usually skip game intros!! Whoever made this is my hero forever
Good to see that it had some kind of effect on you! While writing the script for that, we knew who the culprit was that disabled MDs ship and left him stranded out there.
Great and rememberable intro. I wonder why they gave the Material Defender a face though? Would've worked better just to have him in a helmet, as he should be wearing, just like modern fighter pilots wear.
@qix77 Descent 4 :O Sounds like a dream for my ears. I really got mad in this scene because no ship can equal the aggresive design and lines of this ship. Just look at it, it says: "I'm comming to kick every pissed off robot ass i find in my way!". The new ship they gave to you is just... a new ship :(. If Descent 4 was is never a reality, there needs to be this ship brand new, like: "I'm back to blow some robot insides out one more time". :') It will be glorious!
The vocal bit at the beginning of this is also used in Dieselboy's "Dungeonmaster's Guide" album, during the intro :P
Also, am I the only one that finds the last 2 notes at the end of the intro just...out of place? I always thought it was my game's video that was hitching at the end, but I guess not :P
@Dreadnaught396 ahahah excellent man! Thank you so much for pointing that out! Much appreciated. Indeed the song Prologue by Dieselboy on album The Dungeonmaster's Guide (Disc 1) of 2004, does contain the female voice at the beginning of Descent 3 Intro. Also the guy's voice on that song is Peter Cullen that did the voice of Optimus Prime in the movie Transformers (but that was obvious).
Great find man Dreadnaught396. Thank you again!
Now I only need to find out if any movies used this song...
Did anyone hear the voice and part of music at the beginning in some new 2009/2010 movie? I wish I could remember its name. Maybe it wasn't one of the new movies, but so I remember. Could have even been a documentary ie. even BBC like documentary. If anyone know, please reply, I am obsessed about finding this again for a few days now... :/
from 0:00 to 0:08 and even further until about 0:25 but probably not further than that....
Maybe I'm wrong and so then it's _just_similar_ with Avatar musica
I have the original CD format of this game. Still one of the best games I ever played. Heh, Im 14 now and I remeber when I used to watch my dad play all three of the Descents. The intro is beautiful and very well set up.
I about cried when I saw the intro to Descent 3 for the first time. After the cliffhanger ending of Descent 2, only to see my beloved Pyro-GX all scorched and then burn up in Sol just broke my heart.
i have this game in it's original form. 2 cd's. the entrance is awsome. however, i can't play too long because of the heavy 3D. the graphics are ahead of it's time. not complaining, one day i will try to get to the end. had it since new, never played it to the end.
He said that the graphics were mind blowing back then and I said "apparantly they still are" if they are able to make people think that it is on one of the consoles...
Felt just that way about the ship. This is the first time I've ever seen this, despite having played Descent 1 and 2 no end of times. I've just finished completing Descent 2 again, thought I'd have a dig around to see what happened in 3 without actually going to the effort of tracking it down, getting it to run, and playing it.
@c1rcu1tn3rd No I totally understand, I mean us hardcore Descent fans had spent years and 2 games in that ship fighting robot hordes and to see it go like that nearly brought me to tears.
@c1rcu1tn3rd oh, nothing strange about it. That little ship was our best friend for four years. Almost as sad as watching the NCC-1701 melt away when we lost the old gal Enterprise
@K1productions I think that could be partially responsible to my reaction to this movie. It was still fresh in my mind -- even after all that time. I thought it was a shame to jerry-rig the damaged, but great ship. (Enterprise) I know it was going to be decomissioned, but surrely they could have stolen a ship that was more appropriate for the mission. The fact that it never got off a shot, proves to me that a smaller ship would have worked just as well. Just my opinion.
@NedN00b well, they did get off two good torpedo hits. Scotty just didn't count on taking her into combat, as there was no forseeable reason for it. Overloaded the console, as it was controlling the ENTIRE ship. But then, everyone walking in to the movie knew the Enterprise was going to die... frakking movie trailer....
@c1rcu1tn3rd You are my type of strange, I suppose. I had spent hours, and days with that ship, first on Trainee, to make it to the end level, then on Insane -- for Descent I. I admit, I was never able to make it through on Insane for Descent II, though. Bosses & Ultra flash missles were just too powerful for me. I still spent months on D2 as well. I was unprepared for the emotion I felt, when the ship was jettisoned. For a long time, I skipped the intro thereafter, or skipped the final part.
@c1rcu1tn3rd I guess it's sadness cause you're pretty much watching a ship that's done so much hard work for us and has so many stories from many descent fans slowly burn away.
In the end, the ship is released back to space before the player is safe, so he is exposed to space and should be sucked out just like the ship. A little mistake there. ;)
The way how the Pyro GX got burned black is now reminding me in the episodes of Pokemon on how Pikachu electrified the trainers bikes turning into that! =P
Descent 1 was my first pc game ever, followed right by Descent 2. The two titles are a true milestone in the history of PC games, and one of a kind. I still play them today on DOSBox, 13 years later. Everytime I "hop" into my GX it feels like the first day, except I know all the levels. They will never grow old.
Descent3 had the one of the best intros of all the games I know, but the story and outside levels were a fail imo.
The disposal of the old GX is also a disposal of oldschool Descent.
you know descent is not a game to be classified epic, and the intro dont fit in a game with conspiracies and stuff like that, i mean the game was not epic as the intro suggests.
it made me so pissed when i saw that everything from the first two games was sacked and the guidbot now sucks and lol the game basicls sucks if you have played the first two game . anyone agree ?
the storlyline wasn't that good but the multiplayer was epic. i would be on there hours at a time nonstop. wish there was still somewhere to play folks in it.
@Demolitionlinchpin maybe it couldn't with that much damage. I mean... you know, if a vehicle have taken to much damage, then it's better to get a new one, rather than repairing it.
All jokes and claiming of helmet looking better aside, I don't think that's true. Unconsciousness is easy enough to show by seeing his head roll with the ship's moves.
Actually, I agree. He was wearing a completely different (and more realistic-looking) costume in Descent 1.. and since he never changed costumes, it makes no sense with the new weird outfit taking its place.
In any case, a small detail like this doesn't ruin one of the most awesome game intros of all time.
I thought the story in D3 was okay, but the way it was told was disappointing. D2 was still the best in the series, though.
As for the intro, I still consider this one of the best intro sequences of any of the games I've played, and I remember it bringing a tear to my eye the first time I saw it. It was like saying goodbye to an old friend - really masterful work.
Where can I get this game at I already had the first 2. The first 2 were very awesome! I miss using the fusion cannon and the omega gun as well as ripping my enemies apart with the vulcan^_^ XD
Awesome end to D2 and awesome intro to D3, but too bad the story to D3 went downhill fast. They turned what seemed like a mysterious alien invasion into a boring corporate corruption scandal.
Let's see. This game is what, 10 years old now? And you're watching it in Youtube quality? These game blows everything that came out within the last 5 years out of the fucking water. Go play some more Halo you fanboy faggot.
This game is probably the hardest modern game to date. Descent One and Two are even harder.

I gotta feeling that this intro is inspired by Alien 3 opening. Very similar style, both visual and music

In the end, the ship is released back to space before the player is safe, so he is exposed to space and should be sucked out just like the ship. A little mistake there. ;)

I always loled at that everytime I played the game, haha!

The disposal of the old GX is also a disposal of oldschool Descent.

i was about to reinstall this game to watch the movie vids, but something told me to checkout youtube. thanks raptorfx

It broke my heart when I saw the GX just tossed into the sun like that :(
They should have repaired it, I don't like the GL as much.
numberfourtytwo 2 years ago 3
you should get Pyromania
Pyromania is a MOD for descent 3 that brings back most D1 & D2 weps
and it also replaces the ships: Pyro GL, phoenix & Magnum with the original Pyro GX & 2 others that i cant remember the name of
TJBSports1 2 years ago
lol i like how they used the exact same ending video from descent 2
sk8rdood67 2 years ago
you know descent is not a game to be classified epic, and the intro dont fit in a game with conspiracies and stuff like that, i mean the game was not epic as the intro suggests.

I shead a tear whenever I see that little powerhouse fall into the sun. It got me through so much in the first two games...

Yeah, this ship is the ultimate robbot-ass-kicker. This can't hace happended to her!
Demolitionlinchpin 2 years ago 2
it made me so pissed when i saw that everything from the first two games was sacked and the guidbot now sucks and lol the game basicls sucks if you have played the first two game . anyone agree ?

the storlyline wasn't that good but the multiplayer was epic. i would be on there hours at a time nonstop. wish there was still somewhere to play folks in it.
acsounds 2 years ago
go to planetdescent there is a program that lets you get IPs so you can play online with people.
Latsu12 2 years ago
@Demolitionlinchpin maybe it couldn't with that much damage. I mean... you know, if a vehicle have taken to much damage, then it's better to get a new one, rather than repairing it.
ARWINGx1 1 year ago
@Demolitionlinchpin And after all the most-valueable alien-based-tech upgrades you've outfitted with it, too!

Didn't he use to have a helmet?
SkarmoryThePG 2 years ago 2
they cant show that he is dissoriented if he has a helmet on, silly^^
DescendingAngels 2 years ago
All jokes and claiming of helmet looking better aside, I don't think that's true. Unconsciousness is easy enough to show by seeing his head roll with the ship's moves.
SkarmoryThePG 2 years ago
i was just in a sparkly mood^^ my point is that even without his helmet on, the ship got thrown into that su... DAMN YOU!!! DAMNYOU ALL TO HECK! >:()
DescendingAngels 2 years ago
But... but... I didn't mean to D:
Anyway I can make it up to you if you're cute enough?
SkarmoryThePG 2 years ago
Actually, I agree. He was wearing a completely different (and more realistic-looking) costume in Descent 1.. and since he never changed costumes, it makes no sense with the new weird outfit taking its place.
In any case, a small detail like this doesn't ruin one of the most awesome game intros of all time.
SAClassHunterZero 2 years ago
The music at around 1:42 so reminds me of Total Recall.

After hundreds of hours of game time in Descent 1 and 2, expansions and especially Kali multiplayer, I was saddened to see the Pyro GX destroyed.
The only comfort to be had really is that it was irradiated beyond any hope of repair or keepsake, so it had an honorable scuttle.
On the other hand, Descent 3 had such a crappy story that it hardly feels right to count it as part of the series anyway.
Vidken 3 years ago 3
I thought the story in D3 was okay, but the way it was told was disappointing. D2 was still the best in the series, though.
As for the intro, I still consider this one of the best intro sequences of any of the games I've played, and I remember it bringing a tear to my eye the first time I saw it. It was like saying goodbye to an old friend - really masterful work.

Where can I get this game at I already had the first 2. The first 2 were very awesome! I miss using the fusion cannon and the omega gun as well as ripping my enemies apart with the vulcan^_^ XD

And don't for get the Dark Fire combo :) (Black Shark + Napalm Rocket)

Awesome end to D2 and awesome intro to D3, but too bad the story to D3 went downhill fast. They turned what seemed like a mysterious alien invasion into a boring corporate corruption scandal.

Really cheap looking intro.
