With 214,000 miles, poor maintenance, a badly cracked manifold and possible leaky exhaust valves, it can go 0-60 in 12 seconds. Respectable for 3000lbs being moved by an engine with only 116HP designed 30 years ago running through a transmission designed 35 years ago.

@defrag010 They're not that bad; your friend needed to work on his truck. My '89 has seen the other side of the century mark and can get there without much effort. It's no hot rod, but it'll scoot around town really well. The fourth generation trucks topped out in the low 90's because of gearing.

They swapped out the motor! But yes from 1986 1/2 toyota put the 22RE in their pickups before was the 22R which was carbureted.

transmission is generally geared pretty high. especially with whatever rearend he is running.

I got a stock 22RE automatic, 1st gear ends at 50mph (which is 6250RPM's, bouncing off rev limiter) 2nd gear... i haven't found out where that ends, but i've gotten to about 80mph and still haven't found highest i can go in 2nd.

Generally the R154 will give plenty of evenly spaced gearing, then gradually spread out.

i used to have a 22re, but it sucked so i bought a Ford, i never tried to go 50 in first, cause it sounded like it would explode if i did. Dosent your tcm try to shift out of first when your truck hits redline?

Nope, I was on my way home last week.

Took it to rev limit (this is past redline of course.. wayy past red line) or a tiny notch past 50mph

and held it there for about 20 seconds...

then i got bored and moved shifter up. Truthfully, i thought my truck would explode whenever i revved it in neutral... then amazingly one day, i decided to hold down the accelerator pedal all the way down. and bam, rev limit kicks in.

22RE's have 3.5inches of stroke.. and i've taken it past redline countlessly
